Last week's "what if?" generated the same response from many of you. It was something along the lines of, "People wouldn't want me to sing. I can't carry a tune." Hmmm.
There's a similar sentiment in just about any other endeavor you can think of. "Oh, I couldn't do that. I'm terrible at it." Why?
What if we did more things that we are bad at? What if we did things that we might be bad at but that we enjoy doing?
I have heard of many people trying to do something they know they are no good at....and continue to confirm they are not good at it. I think its wise to know what are our strengths and limitations and work accordingly.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying don't know your limitations. But if you enjoy something, even if you suck at it, does that mean you shouldn't do it?
DeleteYes but behind closed doors...haahahaaa
DeleteWell, my son always says that practice makes pretty good, so even if someone thought they were a bad singer, I'll bet with practice they'd get better. Unless they were tone deaf. Or me. LOL
ReplyDeleteThat's a positive way to look at it.
DeleteHmm...I might give crochet another try....
ReplyDeleteHave fun. Crochet is one thing that doesn't have to be "good" to be useful.
DeleteWe risk making a bigger mess of it all, unless we improve on the way.
ReplyDeleteI tried that last year with art. I spent the entire year learning and trying all kinds of new things. I still suck lol!
ReplyDeleteMy brother in law has struggled with playing the guitar for years. Says he isn't good but he continued to take private lessons because he enjoyed it (with the pandemic I don't know if he was able to continue those lessons, as his wife has a number of health issues). As for me - a story for another time.
ReplyDeleteAs long as he enjoys it, it's a good use of his time.
DeleteI think we should try new things, even if we aren't good at them. We might get better with practice. Like I sing terrible, but I'd love to take lessons to learn to sing on key.
ReplyDeletehaha....I do something all the time that I am horrible at and I will cont to do it....SING! I only do not do in the hearing range of others! My poor FURS.
ReplyDeleteIf it's fun, that's all that matters.
DeleteHAHA....I know, when I am driving (alone) I have the radio of the Hippie station. I am driving, dancing in my seat and singing. I love it. Hippie plays the 60s, 70s, and 80's. I had a guy, maybe in his 30s, stop at the red light next to me and since windows were down he told me how I made his day by dancing and singing. Made me smile!!!
