Overdue

When was the last time you washed your car?

Sorry to admit, I'm terrible about doing that. So, when my roommate mentioned a place nearby where you run it through a tunnel where all the work is done, I was sold. (I usually do it myself, hence the reason why it hasn't happened lately.)

Upon my return home, I discovered a little something missing from my car...

That big gap is where the front license plate should go. Sigh.

(Hey, at least my battery was intact.)

It was only then that I recalled that my front license plate had kind of been hanging on by a thread for a while. One of the screws had snapped some time ago, and I have no idea how to get a screw with no head out. Now I have two.

So, I can totally see how the action from an automatic car wash might make the license plate go flying.

Well, it's not like I'm really going out too much, anyway.

(I called the car wash up once I discovered the plate missing. They found it. I retrieved it. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to get it reattached to the car.)

  1. My husband (I have no clue) said you get a metal drill bit a little bit smaller than the screw, (assuming you have a drill) and then you drill the screw (as if you were drilling a piece of metal). You are basically wanting to destroy the screw. (If this damages anything,...well, I would confirm this advice before you try it!)

    1. My roommate's boyfriend is handy, so he'll know how to do that. I was wondering how this gets fixed. That makes sense.

  2. I never understood the point of washing cars. They're outside all the time anyway.

  3. Oh, no! I hope you get it figured out. Is it a touch-less car wash? That might not have helped in your case anyway, but I like the ones that don't have brushes or anything, just strong water jets. Be well!

    1. Yes, it was touch-less. It was the strong jets that created the issue. As soon as I saw the plate missing, I knew it had been blown off (either by water or air).

  4. The holes in our car for the number plate didn't match the number plate so we just drilled new ones. 8 years on and there have been no problems, so you could just leave the broken ones there and reattach just below?

  5. What model of Honda do you drive? Just curious :) Funny about losing the front plate, but glad you did get it retrieved. Imagine trying to work it out with the DMV if you hadn't!

    1. Civic. As for the DMV, it's not that difficult, really. You have to report the missing plate to them, and then they issue you new plates (with a new number). It's a pain, but it's not difficult. (How I know this is a whole 'nother story.)

  7. Good that you got it back.
Well, I think of washing the car as some sort of exercise for my limbs. But then I keep forgetting it, until the day I find the car coated with too much dust.
