Seeing Fluffy Again

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if after we pass (whatever your belief is of what that is) we get to talk to our dearly departed pets, and they can talk back?

  1. Man, I think I would be terrified if that was the case. Like my parakeet would chew me out saying "WHY DID YOU KEEP ME IN A CAGE??" and my frog would guilt trip me over putting the water bowl too close to the hot rock leading to its electrocution. I think my dogs would be great, though. One would be a cantankerous old woman, saying "eh? Say that again?" and "bring me food! You know I can't see where the bowl is."

Now I'm all missing my pets. :(

    1. I'm sorry. That was not the intent of the question.

    2. Awww... The frog story is super sad.

I would love to hear from Luna and Tilly. The former was a beauty queen with killer instincts and also my feline soulmate. My husband agrees (!) and would be curious as me what our goofy cat Tilly would have to say. This is good story material, for sure!

  2. That would make me so happy. I have so many fluffy friends I would like to see again.

  3. That would be nice except if they scolded me for not taking better care of them.

  4. My childhood goldfish would demand to know why my Mom managed to kill them all. My chickens (OK, they weren't pets) would demand to know why I ate them after I lovingly raised them from day old chicks. Interesting answers you are getting. Maybe we humans have a lot to answer for.

    1. Generally, that's true. I had no idea the Pandora's box I was opening :)

  5. I’ve had dogs and cats, so my expectation would be lots of tail wagging and purring and “so glad to see you” remarks.

  6. It would be like: O, we are back! And life would be like what it used to be!
    I had many cats.

  7. Well, I don't know about when WE pass, since I haven't (yet), but my cat, Her Royal Highness, crossed the Rainbow Bridge several years ago but didn't stay there. HRH has returned to haunt me (or "help" me, as she insists) by occasionally writing rude posts for my blog.

  8. Then I would hope to hear Dakota tell me that I was a good owner for him..

    1. I'm sure that's what he'd say.

    2. HAHA in my mind that is what I hear! Given that he lived to be 13, had the life of a KING, never wanted for food, and lived in the house, I think he would say that!!

  9. Molly would probably ask me why I kept feeding her food she didn't like.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
