Burned

I don't plan these things. They take me by surprise.

Last Monday, my roommate had an ophthalmologist appointment. Luisa (my other roommate) had the idea for us all to get out of the house. We'd wait while she had her appointment, and then we'd head to the nearby pier.

(There are lots of local piers. Roommate's appointment was about 15 miles away, so it took us out of our immediate vicinity.)

Roommate's appointment took two hours. ??? Apparently, there had been two emergencies while she was there, so she had to wait much longer than expected.

Luisa and I waited in the car. I brought reading material. I also left the window down.

I really should have realized sooner that my arm, the one that was in the sun, was burning. But it's been a while since I got burned, and I didn't realize I'd be out in the sun that long.

I won't subject you to a picture of the sunburn. I have a gel that helps. It has since faded. I swear I won't let it happen again, but I know another time I will be taken by surprise. Sigh.

But, in case you'd like a view of the ocean...

We had fish 'n chips outside. It was nice.

  1. Glad you got out and enjoyed. I always wear sunscreen as I tend to fry to a crisp.

  3. I get taken by surprise entirely too much for someone who lives in the sunshine state. The worst burn I've had since I've been down here came after I thought I was covered but later learned that my sunscreen had expired. Apparently, that can really make a difference.

Glad the burn is fading & you got to sit by the water for a little while. It's a lovely view.

  5. I try to wear sunscreen. At least, in New York State, the sun here isn't as strong. Aloe Vera gel?

  6. Oh no! I mean, the picture is pretty, but it's too bad you got a sunburn to get it. No one ever thinks about letting their arm hang out the window.

  7. Beautiful picture of the ocean. I always seem to forget to put on sunscreen. Glad your burn is doing better! Bet it was fun to get out and about!

  9. Sun doesn't often get me as it's just too darned hot & humid to stay out more than 15 minutes at a time here. Back where I grew up in Oregon, I'd been just like you. One red and burnt arm.

  10. Sorry about the sunburn, but wow! Those ocean views! I'd kill to live 15 miles away from the ocean.

    1. Actually, I live about 5 miles from the ocean. We have piers that are closer, but we decided to go farther away for fun.

  12. We are all looking for one excuse to get out of the house, aren't we?!
It's unfortunate that your arm got burned. Glad the gel worked.
Yeah, very often we tend to overlook such dangers in the excitement we are in.
I love the piers and the ambience there.

  13. I have to be *very* careful to wear sunscreen. Glad you had a soothing gel for it! And oh, the ocean. ~sigh~ I've had good times on various beaches.
