Hello, Neighbor

This shelter-in-place thing is getting to me. While I do normally spend a lot of time at home, I don't normally spend all my time at home. Occasionally, I do need to get out of the house.

So, the other day when my roommate Luisa invited me along on one of her walks, I jumped at the chance.

It was just a walk around the block on a Saturday. But it helped. It helped a lot.

That first walk was a Saturday. And we weren't the only ones with the idea. The neighborhood has lots of families, so there were groups also out for a walk or a bike ride. Yes, we did keep our distance.

We were amazed at how many people were out and about. They're in the same boat, so of course they needed to get out, too.

Since that first Saturday, we've pretty much been going on daily walks. They don't last quite an hour. It helps me to feel like I'm not too cooped up.

Chalk art has become a thing. And while the neighbors haven't gone nuts with the decorating, one house has had a bit of fun with the situation...

You can click on the image to make it bigger. The minion on the right is holding "hand sanitizer" and is popping out of a tissue box. The minion in the middle is saying "Corona! Run!!!"

Sadly, there's no actual hand sanitizer in the bottle. Not that I checked or anything...

  1. People are being creative in what they are doing so they don't go too stir crazy during these times. It's refreshing to see these things either on Facebook or other social media. Glad you got out to walk. I always like being outside if the sun is shining.

  4. Enjoy your walks and stay well! Getting out is important even for those of us who've avoided most human contact for years. :)

    1. Alas, it's been raining for a couple days, so we've suspended the walks waiting for better weather.

  6. An empty bottle would have done the same thing. You know I love folks being creative and I love when their minds go wild.

  7. I think it's really important for everyone's mental as well as physical health to get out for a walk if they can.

    Love the minions!

  9. Hi Liz - I'm glad you were able to have an enjoyable walk with another at a sensible distance. Love the minions ... fun to see ... and yes there's lots of chalk drawings, while many more signs in windows for the National Health Service. Take care - Hilary

    1. It's the up 30 flights of stairs that would be the real workout ;)

  11. Cute way to get occupied and not getting to much crazy. Starting today, we’re not allowed to go out together anymore, only one by one, not even a couple living together. Authorities are fearing about gatherings for the long weekend...

  13. A lot of stuff. One person in another neighborhood has decorated his entire hedge with bunny ears. Others I know are devoting times to mask making (I'm not a sewer; wish they could be crocheted). There was even a birthday parade in my neighborhood last week. We do try to get out but yesterday was miserable and today we have wind and snow flurries. Where is spring?

  16. It's cool that people are coming together via humor. I don't see that much here. Of course, I don't know much of the language, either. Maybe they are all doing the same.

    1. Well, you know Americans. The worse things get, the more we try to lighten the mood.

  17. I do go a walk around within the perimeter of the apartment complex. Yes, we too are keeping the distance, even though we are all neighbours and we know each other.

And I make sure I wash my hands immediately after I am back home, and put the dress I am wearing in a bucket of soap water for about half an hour, and I put it for drying.

  18. The minions are seriously cute!

I've been trying to spend more time in the yard. It's a slight change of scenery from being inside.
