Burned Again

Last week I mentioned that I was going to be at the Green Acres Marketplace on Thursday.

It was a lovely day. Blue skies...

Well, blue skies after the marine layer burned off. And now that I have a canopy, I can hang water bottle carriers from it...

It wasn't too warm, with a nice breeze gusting through. (Next time I'll be more careful about making sure everything is weighed down.) And I made sure to wear sunscreen.

On my arms.

In my defense, my legs rarely get much sun. I stayed under the canopy. I followed the shadows.

But I got a nasty surprise on my return home. A red, warm surprise on the bottom half of the outside of my right leg. (My left leg, not so bad. And I had been wearing capris, so everything above my knee was protected with fabric.)

Really, you'd think I'd know better. Apparently not.

(I'll be back at the farmer's market this coming Sunday. If you're in the area, feel free to stop by and remind me to apply sunscreen to my legs.)

  1. I pretty much have to slather it everywhere as I burn within minutes. Sorry you got burned.
    Nice display though!

  2. Ouch. It sounds like it was so bright out there that even with you in the shade, all that ultra violet light is just bouncing around and that's how you got burned.

  3. Sun burns stink! Hope it doesn't hurt as much now.

    1. It wasn't too bad. And I have some great after sun gel. Because I have a tendency to do this every summer.

  4. Looks like fun! That was one of the weirdest things when we visited L.A. We woke up one morning and there was this weird cloudiness. It was chilly and dreary all day. Someone who lived there said that was the layer from the water and it had to burn off. I'd never even heard of that before! We've always been to the beaches in Florida and South Carolina and I guess there's no marine layer there?

    1. If it lasted all day, I assume you were here in the spring. June Gloom or May Gray. Many mornings we'll have the marine layer, and that helps keep the temps down.

  5. Made me miss home for just a bit with the marine layer :) Ouch with the burn! Make note to self, apply sunscreen! Wish I could see you at the farmer's market; that would be cool!

    1. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I do know better. I thought I was so clever remembering to put it on my arms.

  6. Oh no! That's why you're supposed to slather every inch of your body in sunscreen. I hope it goes away as quick as the last one.

  7. First-I love your display. Very colourful and you are showing everything to great advantage. Sorry to hear about the burn-That happened to me and I had no idea either until I was home. I hope you find aloe vera and slather it on

  8. Ack! It's so dangerous when there's a breeze too because you don't feel the heat as much. Hope the burn wasn't too bad. The display looks great though!

As a teenager once wiped my hand, which had suncream on it, on the back of my calf, thinking that would suffice for my legs as they pretty much never burn. I was in the South of France, and even though I'm quite Mediterranean in colouring, a day of sunbathing on the beach requires more than a quick wipe of suncream. I burnt around the wipe mark of my hand so I had a pale hand print on the back of my calf. Lol!

    1. LOL. I know better than to lay out in the sun. Under some shade always. I bet the handprint was fun to explain.

  9. Last time I was beach bound, I neglected to put sunscreen on my legs. I came home with a burn on my right thigh. A big part of that was probably because I was reading a book while I was there and neglected to move until the book was finished.

Love the display. It really looks great. If I were in the area, I'd definitely stop by.

  10. Your display is awesome, especially under the red canopy. We used to do flea markets. They are a lot of fun. The people watching is the best. Do your customers try to bargain with you?

  12. That type of experience always reminds me just how effective sunscreen really is! Couldn't survive without it.

    1. I know. My arms got way more sun than my legs.

  13. Your canopy with the water bottle covers hanging is so colorful! I hope you had a successful day. And ouch on the burn. I haven't had a sunburn in ages but I remember how much they hurt.

    1. Luckily, it was very mild (so I was pretty successful at staying out of the sun).
