Thursdays are "What if?" days at LoG. I come up with the craziest question I can think of with the only intent being to jump start story ideas. Let the question take it where it will...
What if time is actually a jumbled up mess, like a ball of tangled yarn? We go about our lives, only seeing that strand of time that we are on. But what might this mean if we became aware of it? Could one time bleed through to another, subtly or not? If two disparate times touched, what might happen?

I sense that I'm in the Matrix...
ReplyDeleteI remember discussing this with friends when I was a teenager. The idea was that we did indeed live in a jumbled up time sense, different bits at a time, it's just that we had no idea of that - we really LIVED in a linear world, because it made sense to us. Whether it really happened like that... well, who knows? Explains deja vue and foresight, though...
ReplyDeleteAs a sort of corollary, I came up with the idea that the entire universe is continually expanding and contracting in synch, so that we dont notice any apparent change in size. Everything is relative.
Yes, we were weird teenagers.

Not really weird. You'd be surprised how often I hear such conversations. Just today, in fact. Two boys spent an entire period discussing parallel universes, although it went much deeper than that.

What a fascinating thought! I have often prayed for time to be stretched and there is more than one occasion when I believe it actually DID stretch, just for me. :~)
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like an intriguing fantasy film, in fact - they did this in Midnight in Paris. Did you see it? I loved that movie and the idea of sort of believing or wishing oneself back in time. My son wants to go back in time to try different video games!

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting idea. One might get glimpses of these other time lines, see what your other self is doing, and if you timed it right, maybe you could jump...hmmm
ReplyDeleteCool! Time is only linear to the person experiencing it. I could totally believe things could bleed through. I think that's the "time travel" idea that would make the most sense. We jump through time because we learn to experience it in a new way.
