Antibodies

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

I think I've done this one before. I've probably done this one before. But it's full-fledged flu season (plus other nasty viruses), so I'm going to do it again...

What if viruses are Earth's way of trying to rid itself of us?

  1. Then we’d better find a back-up planet …

  2. This does sound familiar. I think viruses are the earths way of weeding out the weak.

    1. I don't know. Viruses can make a strong person weak.

  3. Then they'll do it eventually, despite our best efforts.

    1. I was sure you'd tell me where someone already wrote this book. I mean, it has to have been done before, right?

  5. Well if so, the earth better find a more effective way. Not doing a very good job of mass elimination. Not yet.

  6. Nature’s way of repairing itself. I watched a PBS documentary once about human beings and how many of us there really are. They did an experiment with mice. At first, the mice were very good with each other...caring for each other. Mothers of newborns, very attentive and other females helping out. As more mice were born, it became more crowded despite a very large network of cages and thruway etc... soon, the mice were stealing from one another and they were attacking each other without much provocation. What was once clean, was now quite filthy. It finally got to the point where the mothers abused or even killed their young and killings, for no reason, was happening on a regular basis. Without realizing what was happening, a major sickness went through the condensed city of mice and killed the majority of the mice. Their place was cleaned up by the scientists and all seemed to go back to what it used to be.

    1. Fascinating. Do you remember what it was called? I'd look that up and watch it.

  7. Viruses are probably the Earth's way of restoring the equilibrium which humans have, with their actions, upset.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
