All Fed

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

In honor of Thanksgiving week, a holiday that is all about the feast...

What if everyone was automatically provided with all the food they needed to survive?

  1. Well according to Star Trek and Orville, everything would be JUUUUUST FINE :). Somehow, I don't think that would be the case.

    1. Why not? That's why I ask the question, I think. I'm sure there's a problem buried in there, but what is it?

  2. I don't think that would ever happen. I know that's a terrible thing to say, knowing of all the innocent children (and their parents) starving or near starving right now while I sit with a full stomach in my first world home. We would have to abolish greed and war and fight more against climate change. But since the question is a what if that would happen? I think we humans would manage to screw it up somehow. It would only be temporary.

    1. I did not expect this question to get all these doom and gloom answers. But then again, the answers I get to my questions always surprise me.

  3. My first thought was I wouldn't overeat! Then, I wondered if food enough for "survival" is enough? After all, we don't need fudge brownies or imported fruit in winter. There's enough food to provide everyone with what they need, it just doesn't get to them. Then there are those who would steal supplies from others. If we can't provide health care for everyone, we'll never provide food. The rich, by and large, wouldn't cooperate.

    1. But could we overcome that? (As for fudge brownies, I would assume that we'd still have access. But again, I didn't specify.)

  4. Someone would want something other than they were given, and protest over not having it, then use a gun to get it, then others would feel deprived of that item and do the same thing. Conspiracy theories would arise over alleged hoarding of that item by certain politicians, who then would find themselves in danger although they don't have the item in question, as perceived. Things would go downhill from there.

    1. Yup, I could definitely see that scenario happening.

  5. I have to say my thoughts align along the doom and gloom thread. Universe 25 comes to mind. lol For those who don't know about the experiment, I found this article:

  6. Once upon a time I thought it would be nice if I could just take a pill or two for nutrition. They had to taste like food, these imaginary pills.

  7. Oh yes, and what if we could also have a cook to cook it all for us! Wren x

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
