Overtaking You

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

Have you been watching Jeopardy? If not, they currently (as of Sunday when I wrote this) have a champion on a 30+ day streak (closing in on 40 wins). Amy Schneider is (or is almost) in second place for length of winning streak. At number one is Ken Jennings, who is currently hosting the show.

This got me thinking...

What if someone was about to usurp your position/record which is your claim to fame? What if you were in a position of power over them while they were doing it?

  1. I wouldn't care because records were made to be broken. I am healthy enough to take this so I would not do anything to dissuade them from winning.

    1. That's great. I do wonder about some people, though. If you could influence things...

  2. That really places the host in a unique position, doesn't it?

    1. It does. And we all know that it's his record she's going after next.

  3. I'd be happy for them. There's a magical thing that happens when people who've figured things out or reached a certain level, etc. help others to get there, too. It's amazing when people can support other people in the same industry or while striving toward the same goal. Or in this case, record.

    1. Yes, it's great when someone in that position can support them. I don't think everyone would be that helpful, though.

  4. I wouldn't care, especially if I had mentored that person in some way. Maybe it's my age (technically retired but still working part time.) I would feel I really have nothing to lose.

  5. I don't watch jepordy but it's great they are on a winning streak! :) I think records are made to be broken for sure :)

Hope that your week is going well :)

    1. Thanks. She won again yesterday (I'm always a day behind as I record and watch it while eating dinner), so she's getting closer.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
