Last Thursday was Veteran's Day, a school holiday. Since it fell on Thursday, the district made Friday a "non student day". That gave us a four-day weekend. Woo-hoo!
This meant that Wednesday was our Friday.
And, we knew it was a Wednesday. We followed Wednesday's schedule. We did not go off-campus. We did weights and machines for our exercise. We did the Wednesday rotations.
But, when an aide arrived with paychecks, it felt more like Friday. I mean, I didn't get paid (subs get paid like teachers, once a month), but one of the aides got her paycheck (the other one is on direct deposit, like me). And the students got their paychecks.
Yup, the students.
A few of the students have jobs. It's just like a couple hours a week, and it's more a work experience thing, but it's an actual job, and they actually get paid for it. There's a food pantry thing. (I'm not clear on the details.) And Brittany does some cleaning up and helping out at the elementary school next door.
After lunch, the students went about their usual leisure time activities. It wasn't until clean up time that it hit us. Brittany was supposed to go to work after lunch because it was Wednesday. Oops.
I don't feel any guilt over this as I'm still getting used to their schedule. But one of the aides or Brittany should have remembered.
It felt like Friday. I figure that's why everyone forgot.
It felt like Friday! Everyone just goes with the flow, sees what everyone else is doing and figures it's right. That's what I think anyway. Yesterday I was behind a car wanting to turn left, but not in the left turn lane, which has an arrow. When the arrow went green, it went, and I just followed along, going straight! Yes, I got a bunch of honks, and I tried to wave apologetically. I was just doing what others were doing. A wake up call to watch the light, not the car in front of me!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just tune out and stop thinking. It happens to all of us.
DeleteIt can be hard, sometimes ,to keep track of days. How many times, when working full time, did I think a Thursday was a Friday or mixed up other days because it "felt" like a different day, whether or not there was a holiday involved?
ReplyDeleteAnd we even discuss what day it is at the beginning of the day. We really should have no excuse.
DeleteJust like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. That always feels like a Friday, too.
ReplyDeleteOops...
ReplyDeleteI lost usual time keeping stuff, like days weeks months. I am okay on years so far.
ReplyDeleteI'm not. How can it almost be 2022? How? It's barely 2021.
DeleteI agree. The months sure fly by. Be well!
DeleteI never could figure why it feels like a certain day of week, and it not that day week.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Payday is always a good day, right?

Sure. Alas, it wasn't mine.
DeleteHi Liz - time is certainly strange during this epoch of covid ... there's space out - and life along time lines will always continue ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the long wkend. Hope you had good weather and could get outside. Hard to tell one day from another during these Covid times. Do swing by for a visit.
ReplyDeleteIt was kind of a nice weekend, although it would have been nice if it was longer...
DeleteMy head is just not on straight with days anymore. They all seem out of whack to me. I'm forever getting the day wrong, I can only hope that the New Year brings some regularity.
