For Writers

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if I created a virtual writing group (that met via Zoom or such)?

(It's an idea I've been toying with.)

  1. It would be nice, though depending on the day and time, I might not be able to go...

    1. Oh, that's a good point. I'm 12 hours ahead of US Central time right now. Timing is weird for me, too.

  2. I love writing, and take part in several weekly poetry (or prose) "events" on my poetry blog. But, they're not virtual. I wouldn't be apt to do them if they were. I have done a Zoom meeting once, on my phone, and that was for my dog's training lesson!
A great idea though, for others.

    1. Oooh, poetry reading online via Zoom... That's an idea, too. Sorry that you wouldn't want to do it. It would be cool to hear you read your stuff.

  3. Good idea - be cool to get writers from around the world involved.

    1. It would. The trick would be to find a time when everyone could meet.

  4. It is very useful to create a community of like minded people to share the journey.

  5. It would be pretty cool NaNoWriMo has writers groups in some areas of the ountry; I'm no longer doing that large November challenge but I think you would get some good turnout if you offered this. Maybe not initially, but it would grow. The one downside - a lot of people, nowadays, are burned out on zoom meetings. I'm not a huge fan, but resigned to it.

    1. Yeah, that would be the downside. I don't do NaNo, so I wouldn't capitalize on that.

  6. I have joined a Zoom group or two, and, while I like them, I did sometimes find it challenging when most of the participants kept their cameras off. -felt to be lacking a human connection.

  7. I think it would be a good idea and hope it works

    1. There are things to consider. Just in the pondering stage right now.

  8. Interested. Not interested in Zoom though. Skype or Messenger (if they do video) are already available to me. I take (and have taught) my language classes through Skype. It works beautifully.

    1. I'm used to Google Meet (via school). But there'd be a lot of stuff to work out to make it work.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
