Work Buddy

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if it turned out that coworker you really like, your best friend at work, committed a crime?

  1. My instant reaction was to wonder, how can anyone even ask themselves what they'd do? After thinking about it, I still come up with the same reaction. No hesitancy, I'd turn him or her in.

    1. There are people who would cover for them. I don't know any personally, but I'm sure they exist.

  3. I would be shocked unless she broke in to people's house and cleaned them. I would visit her in jail/prison.

    1. Oh, is she a neat freak? We never know what's going on in someone else's head, even a good friend.

  4. Scary, and I would tend not to believe it. More scary if the proof was incontrovertible.

    1. Well, the idea is it is someone you know and trust. That's what gives this "what if?" its bite.

  5. I would certainly be shocked, and would want to know how it happened. And also why they didn't tell me about it sooner!

  6. I would have to know what kind of a crime. I too would probably be shocked but then I would be supportive if I could be; write them if they went to prison, that sort of thing.

  7. I guess it depend on crime and the motive.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
