For Pretty, Part 2

Five months.

Remember this? (If not, click on the picture and it'll take you to the relevant blog post.)

Water bottle cover from For Pretty
It was a lacy thing I knit to cover my water bottle because... Yeah, no good reason. I just wanted a little knit thing over my water bottle.

But, I generally carry two water bottles with me to work, so I needed a second one. When I finished this one in September, the last line of the blog post with this picture said: "I bought the yarn for my second attempt. We'll see how long it takes me to get to it."

I cast on a couple weeks ago. I finished it last Monday...

I'm rather pleased with it. This lace pattern was much easier than the other, and I think the lavender lets the stitches show up so much more nicely.

And now I have two...

(I kind of want to make a third. Not that I need a third. And this yarn doesn't come in orange, which is a disappointment. But I'm still thinking about it.)

Have you ever worked on a project that didn't serve a practical purpose? Should I make a third of these?

  1. Make a third! Find the orange you want. And it does serve a purpose - now your hand won't get wet when the water bottle sweats.

  2. Those are both cute; I do like the pink one better just because its brighter. Is this a view from your window where you live? Neat if it is!

  3. I love these. So lacy and girly looking. Are you going to put them in your shop? I'm with Betty with questions about the view!! Beautiful!

    1. Nah. I think I'm the only one who wants one. I might be tempted to do a special custom order if anyone asks.

  4. Remember I called it a Horgahn?, red might be a good disguise for Valentines Day - No pressure!

  5. If you want a third, sure, why not? Liking it and having fun doing it is all the reason you need :)

  7. I love things that aren't practical! I think there something really great about putting beautiful things into the world, just because. It's art. And I think that incorporating art into every day things IS helpful. It's not only a nice thing for you, but I imagine it catches the fancy of others who notice it.

  8. Pretty! Plus every time you see it it will bring you a little bit of happiness and that's worth everything :)

  9. Oh, make a third. It's the pleasure that counts. The pleasure of the yarn hunt, the relaxation (I hope it's relaxing!) of making the cover. Life is too short. Make it! (You can always use it as a blog prize of some kind...) Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. I could make it a blog prize. Although, I don't think there's a very large pool of people who would want it.

    1. Oh, that's a thought. What color would I not pick? Hmmm... That'll take some thought.

    1. Since the 2nd was easier than the first, yeah, I think I am enjoying making them.

  15. Useless? No way. My water bottles are a bit leaky, so a cover would help that. No one else will mistakenly take your water bottle, either.

  16. That's a beautiful pattern. I think I like the black one better.

    1. I had difficulties with that lace pattern. I might have to give it another go.

  17. I think it's clever, too, enabling you to hang onto a slippery surface.

  18. I once tried to knit a scarf. For fun. It was my first attempt at knitting. After that first night, I gave up. It's something I'd like to finish at some point, but it's been years since I've touched it. I always seem to find something else "more important" to do.

Either way, I like your water bottle covers. Especially with the fountain in the background. :) I think if knitting these brings you joy, then it is serving a purpose. Everyone needs a little bit of happiness in their life. :)

    1. Ah, the first scarf... I wish people wouldn't attempt a scarf as a first project. It's so tedious. That's why most give up. My first project was a pair of slippers. Much quicker.
