Ancient Aliens
At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements ;)
Today's question was inspired by Robert Bennett's Xenophobia, which he's writing over on his blog...
What if we sent archeologists to Mars? What if they found evidence of an ancient civilization?
Oh, and if you haven't been following the story, you should go right now and get started.

I appreciate your comments.
I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.
*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.

It would be interesting to see what they discovered about life on Mars :)
ReplyDeletebetty
I know what story you're talking about!
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will turn out better than the third Transformers movie...
I think if there is evidence of an ancient civilization here on earth then there is a good possibility there is one on Mars.
ReplyDeleteWhat fascinates me is that humans have been around for 45,000 years, but written history only goes back about 7000. What was happening before that?
DeleteThis would be quite the discovery. This may mean men from Mars did actually travel to Earth....or not
ReplyDeleteIt could go a couple ways. Was Earth even habitable when they were there? Or did they colonize us? It would change a lot of science books.
DeleteThat would mean a major change in my worldview. I would definitely wonder when and how all this happened...Hopefully there would be more explorations of Mars so we could figure out how it was possible.
ReplyDeleteThat would be interesting! *goes to Robert Bennett's Xenophobia*
ReplyDeleteHe goes a whole different way. Still, worth the read.
DeleteIt would be interesting. I think the reason I like blogs is I find all sort of interesting things from every day people. Hopeful when we visit other world we communcated with every day people.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
I hope these questions are interesting. I try.
DeleteHi Liz - We've been around for 250,000 years .. and they thought there were 4 groups of us ... but now they think they've found a fifth group off north Australia ... I wrote four long posts about our earth and its peoples "Ice Age Earth ..."
ReplyDeleteAnyway back to your question ... it will be interesting if anything definitive is found ... it is possible - but space is expanding and changing so much - let alone this earthly planet of ours ...
It is a wonderful world - and Robert's story is pretty amazing and so interesting to read .. cheers Hilary
Hmmm..an interesting question. And also quite scary. Have a great November, Liz!
ReplyDeleteI popped in briefly to read Robert's story. Ah, the ancient alien artifacts question. Considering that some people think that human artifacts in Egypt and South America are alien artifacts - well, this would be different, for sure. I think a tremendous amount of excitement would be generated for a time, then we would go back to reading about Kim Kardashian. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWell, naturally...
DeleteNo LIZ! We aren't from Mars but are all living in a simulation! Berenstein Bears or BerenstAIn Bears... what do you remember? We've all crossed a parallel universe apparently! Look it up!
ReplyDeleteUm, okay...
DeleteHmm wouldn't that be something? And were we there originally? Hm!
