Mistakes

At this rate, I might have to revive #idiotsummer...

It's been a bit of a week. I was on track to finish a couple projects by the weekend only to fail due to mistakes I made.

I finally managed to put my purse together. I did some crab stitch around the outside to neaten up the edges, only to find that it gave the purse a bit of a ruffle, and not in a good way. Then I attempted to glue down a button, but it wouldn't stick.

I ripped out the edging and redid it. At the moment, the purse looks like:

It's almost there. We'll see if I can get it finished. Finally.

But what made me feel like a complete idiot was another jellyfish...

Sure, it looks fine now. But...

This is the fifth one I've made. I should have this pattern down. I stayed up late to get the eyes and smile positioned correctly. Took over an hour. Finally got it looking good. Then went to stuff the thing while attaching the bottom only to discover I had worked the bottom incorrectly.

The very last round I worked in single crochet instead of double crochet. Which is clearly stated on the pattern. But I completely missed.

At that point it was 12:30 AM, so I went to bed. Because I couldn't face it.

The fix turned out to be fairly straightforward (and I was able to complete it in about a half hour). Doesn't mean I still don't feel a bit stupid.

So, yeah. I think I might need something simple to work on for a while. Although, I still might manage to screw it up.

  1. At least you keep trying. I do like how the purse is looking though.

  2. I'm sorry. Doesn't matter the mistakes, just how good it looks in the end.

  7. ugh. I feel your pain. I'd recommend knitting something mindless with a basic knit stitch. Like a scarf.

    1. Can't. Knit. Scarf. That would make me even crazier.

It wasn't so much the knitting. It was the putting together. My next project has no finishing, so I should be good there.

  8. I'm so scatter brained right now. What is it, I wonder?
Every day I drive Matt home and half the days I go straight to my house instead.

    1. Glad I'm not the only one. On Saturday I couldn't be trusted to push the shopping cart. I ran into too many things.

    1. I saw somewhere someone had crocheted this huge octopus. Kinda scary looking.

  10. I know it's frustrating, but that frustration is part of getting better at any craft. You're doing a great job! I thought knitting was supposed to be relaxing?!

    1. It's more relaxing when things come out correctly.

  11. Everyone makes mistakes. Were you tired when you were knitting the jellyfish? It was probably a good idea to sleep on it. Sometimes. when I'm tired, it can take two or three times as long to re-do even if fixing the problem is actually really simple. And the longer it takes to fix (due to tiredness), the more aggravating it gets. Which, of course, results in even more mistakes. *sigh* It's never ending.

What made you decide to make another jellyfish? I thought you were through with them.

    1. I got an order for the lavender jellyfish. And she's tentatively ordered four more. So, more jellyfish in my future.

  12. Glad you set it away and went to bed. When i have days like this(there are many) it is best to just don't do anything or frustration will win. If it helps-the jellyfish is really cute and i love the colour! The purse it looking good!

    1. Thanks. Yes, setting things aside for a bit helped. All is now fixed.

  13. I recommend putting these aside, waiting a week, trying again. Biorhythms are so 1970's but I do believe in them (sort of). I think we cycle through good days and bad. In a week, everything may work fine the first time, and you may wonder why you had problems this past week. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. Well, the jellyfish has been delivered and the purse was completely finished last night. So, the mistakes are behind me. Sort of.

  14. The jellyfish is fab. Good on ya for preserving. The dress I was making a month ago is still sitting in a pile after the last mistake. I am waiting for the will to finish it.

    1. I've had those issues. Where something sits for months before you want to tackle it again. Good luck.
