Alien Life

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements ;)

Did you watch this past season of Extant? Season 2 was so much better than season 1. Anyway, today's question was inspired by the show...

What if the extraterrestrial aliens have already arrived and are presently living among us?

  1. Just hope they pay their taxes and register to be citizens of whatever country they are living in :)

  2. Yes, I watched. It really isn't my genre of TV viewing but I did enjoy the show. Halle Berry was stunning!! I loved Betty's answer. I am afraid I don't really believe aliens are living among us. But if they are I hope they are nice!

    1. It's funny what we'll sit through during the summer when nothing else is on, eh?

  3. I think some of them are caught on camera when they go to Walmart. If that's the case nothing I can do but hope they don't consider us futile and blow us up to put an intergalactic highway through

  4. Birgit's answer made me chuckle! I hope those really aren't the aliens. Unless they shipped all the rejects to earth.

  5. Fun answers above but seriously scary thought. What if they could read our minds and start manipulating us?

    1. Ooooh! You took that in a whole different direction...

  6. I've met several people of late who behave in seemingly alien ways. So I'd have to suspect them first.

  7. I think it would be especially interesting if they didn't look like humans and actually spent most of their time interacting with animals. Like, they look like a weird breed of sheep and spend all their time interacting with farm animals because that's who they like the best.

  8. I am sure there are a large number here already, cos at least that's a good explanation of the weirdness out there.

    1. But I think that would be too obvious. But then again, most people are as they seem on the surface.

    1. I didn't specify what kind of aliens, so sure, why not?

  10. Never watched the show, but I tend to believe aliens look just like us, so they could be among us. However, I think they'd take one look at our way of living and huff it back to their own beautiful planet.

  11. I don't watch this show, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were aliens among us. There are probably many of them here.

  12. I like J E Oneil's comment. I think we assume that they'd look like us but what if they're teeny tiny single cell organisms, or koala bears or something. Hell, maybe that explains the duck-billed platypus!

    1. Yes, I like the idea that they don't look a thing like us.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
