How Much?

I've been going back and forth over this in my head, and I need some outside opinions.

How much would you be willing to pay for something like this...

They're handknit using 100% cotton yarn. The dimensions are...

And they're in several colors...

I've been adjusting my prices on things and figuring if making some of these items is worth it. Yes, I sell them in pairs. Thank you for your help.

  1. I'm going with Alex. Ten dollars? How much time does it take you to make a pair?

    1. Thanks. I'm seeing a consensus here. It takes me a couple hours to complete a pair.

  2. Hmm. I have no clue. It's not something I would buy for myself so zero? But if I were to think of a girl buying it? Seven? I just don't know.

  4. Well, if it takes a couple of hours to make, then with the cost of the materials, then yeah, ten dollars sounds about right.

  5. I have no idea how to price things like that. My mom used to have a formula she used for her homemade things. The cost of the supplies and then double it or something like that?? See I told you I wouldn't be helpful. They are very cute though.

  6. I was going to say $15 because of the time it takes you to make them and the cost of the yarn.

  7. Whilst they wouldn't be suitable to wear here (the road and concrete get so hot you can fry an egg) I can see the amount of work that's gone in to them. At least ten dollars I'd say.

  8. If I was buying them my initial thought was $10 as well before looking at the comments.

  9. I can remember making them out of raffia when I was a girl and then putting raffia flowers on the front.
They'd be great for anyone with big bunions and hardy soles.
Maybe Pinky Poinker could sell 'em to pretty up the feet of her 'red light' friiends?

    1. I had never seen such a thing until a couple years ago. Had no idea they'd been around longer than that.

  10. Liz,

The problem with handmade items is that you can hardly make any money with it by the time you count your time and materials. It seems $10 is the consensus here, but I know you probably expect more than $5 an hour and that doesn't even count materials. I bet you can get several pairs out of each skein of yarn so maybe the price of materials isn't that much, but is it worth it for $5 an hour? I guess that's the question you have to ask yourself.
