Pocket Universe
At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements ;)
What if you could create your own little world--a pocket universe that only you could enter and exit? What would you put in it? How much time would you spend there?

I appreciate your comments.
I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.
*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.

I think we all live in that pocket universe... don't we? We each have our choice of life to enter and exit.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we just lived the life good and let good be the journey?
A lovely sentiment.
DeleteI'd put a chocolate store and no calories :)
ReplyDeletebetty
Count me in.
DeleteNow THAT would be fun! I like how someone else mentioned chocolate, but I think I'd go a step further and say it's a world where you can eat whatever you want and not gain a pound. I think I'd spend quite a bit in that world! At least every meal. :)
ReplyDeleteThat would be nice.
DeleteThis made me think of The Sims, doesn't everyone who plays that make a little mini-me sim who they can put into situations they'd love to be in themselves?
ReplyDeleteI'd clearly be successful doing whatever I wanted to do in my little universe. I like the idea of people not putting on weight, perhaps not getting sick as well. That'd be nice.
It is kind of Sims-like.
DeleteMy world would be one of constant creation...one day I and my minions would paint every building. Another day, we would play music and dance. Then, another day we might sew quilts for all the minions to use at night....Basically, my world would be one of constant creations.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun, as long as it could be constant knitting.
DeleteThat's a tricky question. It would have to have classical music. And probably flowers and chocolate.
ReplyDeleteSounds lovely.
DeleteMy pocket universe would have roads that only I could drive on... Plus a never-ending guitar store. And a lifetime of Hot Tamales!
ReplyDeleteThat would be like my own personal holodeck. I would have my dad there and my mom-how she used to be and my Oma. I would be living in a beautiful town in the Alps and be able to travel and have a nice dessert in an outdoor cafe
ReplyDeleteI'm always living in my Pocket Universe, and everything I need is there. :-)
ReplyDeleteI feel that way sometimes, too.
DeleteI'd be there all the time. It would be nice and quiet and I could get some writing done without life getting in the way. The real question is would I leave.
ReplyDeleteMy pocket universe..a jet pack so I could travel to different sections. I'd have a ski area but the rest of the area would be 75-80 degrees, lots of sun, great fishing, great music and only neat interesting friendly people.
ReplyDelete80 degrees? Yikes. That's a bit warm.
DeleteIt seems I live in my own personal pocket universe while DH is at work. Those hours are filled doing pretty much what I want to do. We are empty-nesters so I don't have to tend to anyone's needs outside my own for the most part the majority of the day. It's nice to have my own time again. Interesting question! Thanks for stopping by today, Liz! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt would take me much too long to tell you what I would put in my universe but suffice it to say once I created my little haven, the question would be, would I ever leave?
