A Doorway

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements ;)

What if you could magically create a door anywhere?

  1. That would be fun! I think I would create a door to a candy store :) (can you tell I'm craving chocolate?)

  2. How about one to a dimension where I'm a rock star?
I'd settle for a doorway to Narnia though.

  3. I'd like not having to worry about transportation. Plus I could use these doors however I saw fit. I could totally monetize it (yes, my mind always goes there).

  4. Oooh that would be cool as long as we create what is on the other side:)

  5. I'm such a workaholic writer, I'd probably never use it. Although it would be nice to have a doorway I could step through to be on the beach instantly!

  6. I like Stephanie's idea. It would be Heaven in the winter to be able to just open a door and get a little summer fix.

  7. If were talking doorways in the capacity of a wormhole then definitely a door from my house to one of my daughter's house.

  8. Doors

So you open the door, do you close it, or do you leave it open? Or if you close it and then return and open it, is it from where you left off? Doors are great metaphors, they are used in many movies, there are two that come to mind – the Adjustment Bureau and of course Monsters Inc.

Here’s an interesting, very short post by John Bensley about doors:

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
