A Black Hole Too Close

Have you seen the ads? Well, first I should ask if you watch the Science Channel? If you do, then you've probably seen the ads.

They're doing this black hole special thing on Sunday. And because the Science Channel is my go-to channel for background noise, I've seen the commercial numerous times. It asks the question: What if a black hole appeared in our own backyard?

I assume the shows will address this possibility. But it got me thinking...

What if the Earth had been swallowed up by a black hole a long time ago? What if we are in the maw of a black hole that destroyed our world and we don't even know it?

Yeah, I know, not likely. But my what ifs aren't supposed to be likely. They're just out here to make you think.

  1. I don't even know what a black hole really is - but, then again, the Science Channel would so NOT be my go to channel for anything.....Is there even a Science Channel? Don't tell the guy I life with about it or that might supersede baseball.
Is that how you spell supersede?

  2. Well if nothing has happened yet then I guess it doesn't matter but if it's only a matter of time before we are all crushed into oblivion then I guess we're...in the words of the Angry Lurker...fecked.

  4. It's a cool idea. I think that first, the laws of physics would go wonky. From there, totally wild things could start happening. People could start "flying", engines and electricity wouldn't work right...there's a lot of possibilities here.

  5. Let's hope we haven't been swallowed in a black hole. While we're at it, let's hope our sun keeps going.

    1. I don't think that's something we're going to have to worry about for a long, long time.

    1. That's the premise of my Thursday posts--questions that can lead to stories.

  7. I haven't seen the Science channel or the ads, wonder if they are not on here. I think of that Simpsons movie, didn't Homer fall into a black hole? I am imagining meeting Homer Simpson if I fell in one too :)

    1. It would depend on where "here" is. I'm in the U.S.

Unfortunately, when I saw the Simpsons movie, I wasn't watching it closely, so I have no idea if you're correct or not. Hopefully someone else can clue us in?

  8. Interesting question. The news channel is my white noise choice.

  9. LOL. Those thoughts might be a bit too deep for a Monday. ;)

(*hyperventilating* Oh NOS she's onto to us... Don't panic! Just because we reset the state of the universe after accidentally blowing it up--that doesn't mean everyone will stone us with bottles of squeeze cheese.)
