I'm wilting.
I have not been dealing with the summer heat all that well. Terribly, in fact. The thing is, it's not truly that hot. So, I don't have much sympathy for myself here.
(We've been in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Fahrenheit, of course. Mostly 80s. I mean, if we were spending a lot of time in the 90s and getting into the 100s, then I could understand. But this is pretty standard summer here, so why it's bothering me so much is also annoying me.)
Which is to say that I'm not making loads of progress on the crochet front. Although, considering the time of year and what I'm normally getting accomplished right about now, I'm positively industrious.
I added a couple rounds to the first side:
and a few more rounds to the second:
Right now they're practically the same size (which is why the first side got some more rounds). They're both wavy, but I think a couple rounds of no increases will tame that out of them a bit. I've decided that they're not wavy enough for me to rip them out again.
I've gotten to the point where I'm just adjusting every round. I lay it flat. Look at it. And decide if it's feeling ruffly. Then it gets an "even round" (no increases). If it feels flat and the round I just did is curling up, then it gets an "increase round" (I increase every X number of stitches--X is one more than the last "increase round" I did).
I've decided that since this is going to be for a woman, and women have curves, the bit of ruffle is just so that it'll conform to her curves.
So, that's where I'm at now. It's going to be slow going for a bit. But then I'll hit the point where it's as big as it needs to get, and then things will get interesting. I hope.
I hope things aren't blazing hot where you are. Ah, the joys of summer.

DeleteIs it the humidity? We had a couple days with higher humidity and it really zapped me.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from Ohio. Our humidity has nothing on theirs. I should feel better from the comparison, right? Nope.
DeleteIt’s the humidity! I was sweating like crazy at the fair at 10pm and it was only 74 degrees. Then someone mentioned that we have humidity now, ugh. That explains it. We all feel listless and weighted down. SoCal is turning into a rainforest 😜
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and I have never been one to crochet in the summer, to me, that is a winter project. Just too hot to have a afghan laying on your lap when you are working on it...80s, I would take that. Course I guess depending on where you are, you could also get a breeze from the ocean. Here, no breeze, mid 90s with feels like with the humidity of 105 to 110, Course you know where my ass has been, INSIDE.
ReplyDeleteNot really close enough to the ocean to get that cooling. But close enough that I'm not getting the much higher inland temps. I find knitting is harder in the summer. Crochet doesn't make my hands sweat as much.

ReplyDeleteIt is very hot and humid here in Montreal, I am making the best of it. I did a load of laundry today and went out to buy some milk, but other than that I am laying low and drinking plenty of water!

As far as my Monday blog post goes, it appeared in the Blogger news reader 16 hours later than on my blog itself. LOL! At least it did appear. But on a couple of occasions it did not at all, I try to make the best of that too.

There was a time when five blog posts appeared from someone I follow, and it turned out that I had missed something like two weeks of posts. They all appeared at once. I'm not sure why things glitch like that.

DeleteIt's annoying. But, just know that if your post doesn't appear when you post, it doesn't mean it won't appear ever.
DeleteIt's 84 (3:30 pm 7/27) right now and I hear thunder. And it felt sticky when I was out walking earlier. I walked about a mile and felt drained so - it could be heat, it could be all your recent travel. You may also be spending some mental energy on that crochet project. But good that you are continue to progress. I almost never crochet in the summer, even in air conditioning.
ReplyDeleteI probably wouldn't be touching the crochet, except I kind of know where I'm going with this one, I only work at night when it's cooler, and the only TV shows I have to watch really need me to be doing something with my hands. Some shows keep my focus, but these do not. (It's either the crochet or I kill my phone battery playing games.)
DeleteWell, you wouldn't wear a sweater in the heat, so it makes sense that having one in your lap to work on could be unpleasant.
ReplyDeleteIf it's humid enough even 80 degrees can be miserable. It technically hasn't been super hot here lately, but the humidity has been HIGH, so it's rough.

ReplyDeleteThis is Birgit….my menopausal symptoms started when I was in my early 40s especially the heat. It just made me even less resilient to the heat. I was never for the heat but it got worse after I turned 40. I can’t wait to see how you will fit everything together. Love the look of this.
