Speculative fiction has a long history of taking the issues of the day and reframing them in a new context with the hope that people will look at them in a new way. Our "unprecedented" times are bringing all sorts of old ways and old thinking back to the forefront. On Tuesdays, I present "what if?" questions. Previously, the intent was as an idea generator. It still is. But now, I ask that you really think about all the repercussions that these ideas will have. If only these were just thought exercises.
What if the powers in charge never do anything about curbing pollution to reduce the effects of climate change?
I think its probably too late now anyhow.
ReplyDeleteAnd what gets me is we had decades of warning.
DeleteWell, since we don’t have a backup planet, we can only hope that benign aliens with superior technology will show up one of these days and help us
ReplyDeleteThat would be lovely. Not likely, but lovely.
DeleteWell, China and Russia don't plan on doing much, and if they don't, then most of what we do won't help a lot.
ReplyDeleteIf no one does anything, we're doomed.
DeleteSome life will survive, but we won't be one of those species.
ReplyDeleteThat may be a good thing.
DeleteIf we do nothing, the ice will melt. Temperature of the planet will rise owing to an increase of carbon dioxide and thats not even the beginning. Folks will buy air conditioners and what about all the factory machinery, oil rigs, wars, cars cows, and 900,000,000 dogs going for a poop every day? Thats a lot of carbon dioxide and other pollutants heating traping the sun. Think about it. 50 years ago 3.65 billion people lived on Earth. Now we've more than double that amount of folks wrecking the planet. God help us.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very big possibility. Just like when the plastic industry stated recycling was going to solve the problem of plastic pollution and it was up to us! What a lie. We are killing our race and our planet. I feel like the planet will out last our race though. Alien scientists probably look at humans as an endangered species.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? We as individuals are doing as much as we can. We need the big polluters to do their share (which is substantial).
DeleteIsn't that what is taking place? We have been reading of climate change for years but have the scientist been doing enough to try to solve the problem? Did they wait to long to start looking into the issue? WIth that said, will we ever know the answers to those questions? lol.....we are destroying the world slowly.
ReplyDeleteNo, we've had decades to do something. It's just that those in power and those with the money have been dragging their feet. Those with the money want to keep getting the money, and they refuse to lose even a little even if that means saving the planet.
DeleteThat's Happening now which sucks. That being said, I believe in nature and I think enough people qi get the boneheads to...maybe think twice. Look at how nature can grab onto one site and grow wild.
ReplyDeleteI hope so. I really, truly, sincerely hope so.
DeleteThis world will evolve into something different. Will we be able to adapt? ... I don't know.
