Aliens Among Us

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if the aliens are already among us? Specifically, what if an alien species came here a long time ago and has been here ever since, but we don't notice because we think that species is native to Earth (like, what if bats or kangaroos or whales or some other ordinary Earth creature is actually aliens sent to observe us)?

  1. Depending on why they're observing us, we may or may not be in deep doodoo. I think the aliens are cats, so we better be good, we better be nice, cause somebody out there's checking their list twice. Maybe I'll get whisked away one day to the planet or dimension known as Catland. I want to go. I need a vacation badly and because who doesn't like chasing strings, laying on computer keyboards and knocking things off counters.

    1. Also, I'd rather vacation with cats in space than with Elon Musk anyday.

  2. I haven’t read a National Enquirer (are they still around?) in a very long time to keep up with the space aliens. lol

    1. Sadly. And we definitely know why they haven't contacted us.

  5. The aliens live in the hollers of Midwest rural areas. Not sure, but I'm just saying.

  6. I wouldn't be surprised if we are under quarantine from the greater galactic community. We are a danger to ourselves and others. It's just a matter of "which species is monitoring us?"

  7. I actually think of what if's like that when I create a fantasy world that is set in our world and an alternate one. What you say could be possible.

  8. I believe we were helped to develop by an alien race. I am not sure if they are happy with their creation though. Imagine being an advanced civilization seeding life in the universe and watching how it advances over time. Would we be considered a success?

    1. But we're not finished yet. At least, I hope we're not finished yet. I think we can be so much better. Hopefully. Eventually.

  9. Oh, I very much believe in this and some of the stories I read could be true, like a guy who accidentally got an overdose of Xray and he can hear voices around him which is nothing but aliens communicating with him. Others think that the Xray overdose has affected his mental equilibrium.

    1. Were the dolphins aliens? I thought they were just much more intelligent than we are. It was the mice that were from another dimension...

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
