A Mistake?

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

If you watch The Flash, you know where this one came from...

What if a time traveler from the future attempted to kill you because you are going to create some catastrophe?

  1. I supposed the responsible thing to do would be to question him or her to verify the story, and if true, let them. One life must surely be worth stopping a catastrophe. Or, alternatively, perhaps figure out a way to avert the trouble in the future, now that I'm warned, since a time traveler visiting would change the future in itself.

    1. A time traveler definitely will change the future. And I would assume you're not planning on causing a catastrophe, so a warning should be enough to keep it from happening, right?

  2. Let him do it, catastrophe averted, he never goes back in time, I don't die.

  3. Oh, the stuff of SF (and comic book heroes). I loved the Flash as a child; never watched the program. Anyway, why would I let the time traveler kill me? Just his or her presence changes the present; neither of us would know how it would turn out. Instead, I have no idea what I would do! I doubt he or she would let me help avert the catastrophe but maybe we could find a way.

    1. I like the CW Arrowverse. As I never followed the comic books, I have no idea how true to them the shows are, but I like how they all cross over and such.

  4. Ahh the conundrum. How about he or she just tell me what I did or didn’t do and I will make sure I don’t do that. Crisis averted!

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
