Fearless

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if there was a pill that would take all of your fear(s) away?

  1. I wouldn't take it. Probably a bad idea. Fear is an instinct to keep us safe. If we are fearful of an unreasonable thing, say the sound of a train whistle (I just heard one, and will guess some do have the fear, and it isn't unreasonable to them) maybe get to the root of it, because a pill covers over the fear. My son and I are debating this right now! He's often the devil's advocate! He wonders if we would become immune to the fear after a dose or two...

    1. Yeah, some fear is needed. But, those with anxiety issues have an overdeveloped sense of fear (where they're afraid all the time for no reason). In that case, there's rarely a root to be found that can help the situation.

    1. Yeah, I could foresee the whole thing backfiring somehow.

  3. My fears are not that bad so I prob would not need them but if they were really bad then I would take one.

  4. I would rather like better a pill against doubt and uncertainty 😉

  5. At first I thought, sign me up immediately. But yes, fear has a purpose. It's excess fear/phobias (I suffer from a couple)that are the problem, and if that pill could work on my phobias, that would be wonderful.

    1. There has to be a balance. Not everything is all good or all bad.

  6. They're a reason why we have fears.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
