The Soundtrack

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.
😉

What if when you heard music, via the radio, in the store, or just from random passersby, it somehow predicted what was going to happen to you or around you?

  1. I'd wear earplugs when out in public! And watch videos etc. on mute, I guess. Although yesterday on the way home from grocery shopping, my phone slipped under a seat and Cyndy Lauper started in about girls wanting to have fun. That would be okay, to have the fun she sang about! (Then, when I got home and my son came out to help with the groceries, he found out I have the song on my phone. I don't know why that embarrassed me!)

    1. There are far more embarrassing songs than that. Does he have no taste?

  6. I don't think I'd want to know so much of the future. I mean, if you had the radio on at work all day like we do, that's a lot of predictions!

  7. That could make an interesting what if for a fantasy novel. You have some good ideas. Maybe you should start writing.

  11. Oh, wow. I can totally imagine a character insistent on wearing a headset nonstop and having a set playlist for an optimum outcome. But even that might backfire depending upon circumstances, couldn't it? Neat concept. :D

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
