Haunted

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements.

What if your workplace was haunted?

  1. My workplace was haunted, or seemed to be anyway. Nothing really scary ever happened but there were plenty of weird occurrences.

  2. I work out of my house and do 'see' my mother around. I don't know that I'd consider that haunted.

    1. It depends. Is she a ghost? Although, even then maybe, maybe not.

    1. Since I never see ghosts, I wonder if I'd be frightened or excited to actually see one.

  4. I worked in at least one historic building so it's possible. But never experienced it personally!

    1. I didn't think of the working-from-home angle. I think we always hear about haunted houses, so I wanted to turn that idea a bit.

  6. Many, many years ago I worked summers in the junior- and senior- high schools I went to, both of which were very old buildings. There was nothing creepier than being in those big old buildings alone and hearing odd sounds, seeing shadows, etc. Just got the shivers after all these years!

  7. So..that would be cool. Mind you I have heard footsteps, thumps, a crash with a walker plus my empty pill bottle filled up with the 20 some odd pills I thought went somewhere else, while I held the closed bottle in my hand! No one else was around. This happened in my home. Oh, my hubby bought these motion detection lights and placed them going up the stairs and in the hall leading to the bathroom. I was upstairs, brushing my teeth and I saw the motion light turn on downstairs, then Another and was waiting to see a pussy cat. The third light turned on and...no cat! Finally the hallway one went on and they went on as if someone was setting them off. I checked for the cats..none were around and, afterward, found them sleeping downstairs.

  10. Interesting topic....and it could be really interesting depending on a good haunt or a bad. Personally, I am a believer of all that, I have lived it. Mine was a good haunt and I had the sense that is was just there to look after me and the kids, when I did not need it anymore, it moved on. I sort of missed it then.

    1. And it's different at a workplace than at home. At home you're alone. At a workplace, hopefully not.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
