Mask Up

Are you all still wearing masks?

Masks are required of the in-person students (as well as the teachers and all staff). We have the masks, the partitions, air circulating, social distancing, and constant cleaning. Hopefully all will be well continuing on.

However, a certain problem has cropped up that I know you are familiar with, going by how often the complaint pops up on social media.

The kiddos don't keep the mask over their nose!

In public, I grumble. I see these people, and I wonder if they realize that the whole point is to cover the nose (as well as the mouth). But it's not my place to say anything, so I don't.

However, in school, it is actually my job to make sure the kiddos are complying with the masking up.

Yup, I get to tell kiddos to pull their masks up over their noses. And they do it

Ah, the power.

It kind of makes up for when I leave campus and no longer have the authority to do so. Sigh.

  1. Sigh. Would be great to do it on the street too. I heard that the mask is no longer mandatory in the street in the USA.

  2. I wish I could tell people to pull up the mask - it hs to be frustrating to you once you leave school grounds.. Right now I think the NY mask mandate is still in place. We (husband and I, both fully vaxxed) discussed this morning and we are going to continue to wear indoors. You just don't know who there is vaccinated and who isn't. Outdoors, we don't live in a congested area. We do wear masks if in an area with a lot of people. That we may abandon. We've also decided we will not resume indoor restaurant eating. It's going to be a process.

    1. It's annoying, but I just channel that annoyance into when I get to tell kiddos to pull up their masks.

  3. I want to squirt people with a hose every time I see a mask below the nose. It's not doing much good if your germs can still get out through your nostrils!!!

  4. That would drive me crazy as well. Under the nose is the same as not wearing it! I mean, it increases the risk for others, but it also increases their own risk. Don't they care they are exposing themselves to the risk of covid?

  6. I hear people complain about discomfort from the mask, or that their glasses steam up, but I have found that over time I've gotten used to the mask. My glasses don't even fog up anymore. I guess I found that sweet spot of placement. The chin-sweat is annoying, but still.

We are adaptable creatures. If everyone gave it time, they would get used to the mask. Then things would level out and maybe we could travel again!

    1. Yes, given time we can get used to anything. I am getting accustomed to wearing mine.

  7. A year into this and they still don't know how to wear a mask.
Our state halfway lifted the mask mandate.

  8. I believe we will be living with mask for some time. I look at this as a summer break.

    1. Ideally. Yet, many still fight against them.

  10. I plan to wear a mask in stores and other places and probably will for the rest of my life, esp during cold and flu season.

  11. I have used a mask since the beginning of the pandemic, and even with the vaccine I will continue to use it.

    1. I imagine I'll use masks next winter when the kiddos are all sick with flu, too.

  12. NOPE, NOPE and NOPE....not anymore. As of Friday we no longer have to wear them IF we have had our shots. I have had those, so NO, I am not wearing one. I am glad, with summer coming up, wearing one in a store can kick my asthma up. Yes...you are right, four weddings and a funeral. I was dragging last night after the weddings, took a nap after the funeral.

    1. I wrote this post before the CDC's new guidelines.

  13. That gets right up my nose, too, as it were. However, as of today kids no longer have to wear masks in school in the UK. My kid still took hers today though. I think they're pretty responsible on the whole. I have my second shot today and I'll keep wearing a mask indoors for the time being.

  14. Good for you, Liz, for telling them to pull that mask up and keep it over their noses! I've never understood people who let the mask slip down. There's no point to a mask if it's not covering both mouth and nose. And even though I'm fully vaccinated, I will continue to wear a mask whenever I go anywhere in public.

    1. In some cases, it's just that the masks are too big. But most aren't thinking about why they're wearing the masks in the first place.

  15. Here the norm, as you can imagine, is not one mask, but two. If it's a cloth mask, I wear three at times!

There were many people who didn't wear their mask properly. But with those deadly images playing on TV, I think a lot of them were scared, and we now hardly see anyone who isn't wearing it properly.

Hopefully, we will get over the peak of Round 2; or we have already.

  16. I really like wearing a mask. Being rather a loner and rare to see others, I like the anonymous feel of a mask. Plus, a mask also keeps out pollen and dust, so my allergies are not as severe.

    1. I like not having to smile at people, although I suspect they notice my dead-eye stare when I'm really annoyed with them.
