Robots on the Brain

I'm not exactly sure when this started. Fairly recently, I believe. It seems that the Internet has decided that Thursday is #TBT day.

Rather than continuing to swim upstream on this one, I've decided to go along with the current. Which means that I'm making a change. Instead of posting my "what ifs?" on Thursdays, I'm moving my reposts to the day when everyone seems to be doing the same sort of thing. Which means that the "what ifs?" will now happen on Tuesdays.

Right. So, now on to my weekly random question...

What if we could upload our consciousnesses into robot bodies? What if we could upload our consciousnesses into computers? What would that be like?

  1. If I could, I suspect the computer would behave like this crazy, quirky Sony Vaio laptop I had. It randomly gives me a bluescreen and says, "Your computer experienced an error and needs to restart. Please give us a minute to gather some information." 20 minutes later, it finally finishes. Windows 8.1...gotta love it. So my crazy brain would work well as part of buggy Windows 8.1.

    1. Yeah, that might be a problem. Buggy software containing the brain. Yikes.

  2. If it was me, I'd go for a robot uprising. We wouldn't need these fleshy meat-sacks anymore. Plus conquering the galaxy!

  3. I wouldn't want to give up me, but to have a robot that would respond as me would come in really handy right about now. Mom would never know the difference and I could get more done...and venture out into the world more often. But would a robot really ever be able to "understand and respond" to Alzheimer's...I think not! And, like Stephanie, the scattered parts of my consciousness might just throw that poor computer into a glitch to end all glitches! BOOM! There goes the internet!

    1. Robot doppelgangers... Hmmm. That sounds like a future what if to me.

  4. There's a recent movie about that. I only watched it a few weeks ago. Johnny Depp stars in it. If it was anything like my computer it would keep dropping off line!

    1. I think I just saw a bit of that trailer. I try so hard not to go with the obvious question that goes with something that's coming out, but I don't always succeed at that.

  5. Wouldn't we have like mini me's if we did this? Because the robots/computers would be like us?

  6. it's really what one might call a computer interface, computers are interfacing with everything and relationships that are created by that interfacing, interfacers don't forget, so that means nothing is lost, but that also becomes a problem, needs to be a new term for this kind of awareness. Is there a learning process as this information takes place? Maybe.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
