Last week... Ah, last week. I had such plans...
I was sure I was just about done with the cat. I was even willing to overlook a mistake that I caught. I even said, "I can't see the difference, so I'm not going to worry about it."
Very, very stupid.
You see, what I had done was to join the rounds wrong. Now, in knitting this isn't a problem. But in crochet, beginnings of rounds drift. The way the pattern said to join the rounds compensated for that drift. But, alas, this was in the notes of the pattern, not in the round by round instructions.
I started this in October. I worked on it one day. Then I set it down again until March.
When I picked it up again, I continued where I left off in the round by round instructions. I had forgotten the note in the beginning about how the rounds were supposed to be joined. And I didn't bother to look.
I didn't see the mistake last week. However, once I attached the tail...
The tail is right of center in the above image. It just looks wrong. (It also has too much stuffing in it, but that's an easy fix.) Here's the back view...
The tail is wrong. Very wrong.
So, I've got to rip it out and fix it. Deep sigh.
Hopefully I'll get to that this week. Now, to figure out how to make that post fit L-day...
The cat posts so far:
Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter
Jamie here:
ReplyDeleteDo what you have to do :)
I was going to ignore it, but the error was too glaring.
DeleteThat's something I would do, have done, will probably do again, not check back on instructions. It does look more like a cat though!
ReplyDeleteI mean, it's such a little instruction, easily overlooked. Most patterns are written with that (end each round with "slip stitch into first stitch" and begin each round with "chain 1") explicitly stated. Just asking us to remember? Yikes.
DeleteI hope it doesn't take you too long to fix it.
ReplyDeleteIt’s fixable
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteIt could also have fit for "Catastrophe". perhaps?
ReplyDeleteEdits are PAINFUL. (Hi! It's been a while!) I was away with edits too. And other things. The cat is super cute! Walking away from a project for that many months and coming back, always problematic.
ReplyDeleteUh oh. Get a real cat?
ReplyDeleteI don't have room for one.
Deletethecontemplativecat here. I have ripped out rows of crocheting and it hurt. Best of luck..
ReplyDeleteIt it was more, I think I'd be more worried.
DeleteHaha...oh, well. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry the cat isn't coming together right!
ReplyDeleteThanks. It's a simple fix, once I get to it.
DeleteIt would only be a catastrophe if it were A Fail of Two Kitties.
ReplyDelete*groans*
DeleteFiendish round joining. Is it the foto or is the opposite of the front end too thick? Fiercely frog it. All will be fine.
ReplyDeleteIt must be the photo.
DeleteHopefully fixing the tail won't turn into a catastrophe. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, the puns...
DeleteI always admire handicrafts like this…as a lifelong arthritis sufferer, this kind of work just isn't possible for me. Hope the remake comes out to your liking! @samanthabwriter from
ReplyDeleteBalancing Act
Thanks.
DeleteSorry you'll have to rip it out. That's always frustrating.
ReplyDeleteAt least I don't have to rip the whole thing out. Just a bit.
DeleteI couldn't make out the wrongs anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe tail didn't look wrong to you? I assure you, in person it was very, very wrong. (It's not centered. Sticking straight up.)
DeleteI've been struggling with fins for a fish this week. I'm sorry you have to rip the tail off. At least it's fixable.
ReplyDeleteA meow mistake and a cat conundrum...
ReplyDeleteAh, the puns...
DeleteI always hate having to rip things out when I am working with yarn esp if I get way into it after the mistake. Kitty, how cute that is. I am thinking of starting a snake. I saw some that were so cute and they are done according to the weather temp blankets. My thoughts are to go back and check the years the great grands were born and do each one according to the year they were born. You know, I never put any thought into how many rows it takes to make a blanket/afhgan long enough to cover head to toe. Doing my Feb 14 1960 to 2025 afhgan, I learned that 65 rows are not long at all. I really should have done about 3 or four rows per year. As it is, I just finished the first 65 rows, then I will prob do 65 or more of a solid color for a center section then 65 of the lows for those years. Lesson learned.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm terrible at estimating sizes too. I'm sure some are good at it. I wish they'd teach us their ways.
DeleteThis is Birgit…you will get it fixed and it will all work out
ReplyDeleteCheck back for Saturday's post :)
