Learning Curve

I didn't do a whole lot of knitting last week. I went from this:

To this:

So, a little progress.

But what I really wanted to talk about today is Canva

I got a new computer over the summer. (It became necessary.) And when I did that, I was not able to import the photo editing software I'd been using--Picasa. Picasa was abandoned several years ago, but it was the thing I knew how to use. It only had simple tools, but it did the jobs I needed it to do.

I had been looking for something similar enough. And online I had heard some people talking about Canva for various online images, so I decided to check it out.

And it turns out that it does just what I need it to. It's how I've been editing my classroom photos since October. It took me a bit of time to figure out how to get what I needed, but now I can do that fairly quickly.

So, I thought today I'd finally be able to show off that mistake in this dragon pattern. You know, the mistake that made me frog the whole thing.

Alas, it's going to take me more time to figure out how exactly to do that than I have time for today.

All I could do was circle the biggest mistake. (The other mistake, the reason that I decided frogging was worth the trouble, is way harder to see.)

You may need to click on the image to make it bigger. Then look inside the circle. See how that cable snakes like a backward S? If you look on the other side, you can see how the cables all twist the same way, making for a spiral-like thing. That's what that was supposed to look like in the circle.

It's going to take me some time to figure out all the ins and outs of Canva. Hopefully it won't disappear like Picasa did. (I mean, I should probably learn Photo Shop, but that's not happening any time soon.)

Do you use Canva? Do you have a better way of editing photos?

    1. I just have to have the time to play with it. I'll get there eventually.

  2. Yes, zooming in I can see it. I liked Picasa. I did discover that with Windows 11, which my new laptop came with, has a lot more photo editing than my old versions did, from Photos. Although I have yet to find adding a text book, which maybe it doesn't do, so I just use the computer's Paint.

    1. That's what led me to Canva. I was trying to use Windows 11's photo editor, but I couldn't find an easy way to add #fromthesubfiles to my classroom pics. In Canva it's dead easy.

  3. I had to zoom in to see any mistake. Isn't it a joy when something new works out!?

    1. Yeah, the mistakes are hard to see in the photo, but in person they're glaringly obvious.

  4. I have to learn Canva too. And a little progress is some progress. I'm on round 6 of my stuffed animal, and I'm amazed after each round that it looks right.

    1. The amigurumi, right? It's amazing how simple those can be and yet they turn out so cute.

  6. I have an iMac computer and I use programs that come with the operating system, so I’m no help here if you use Windows. Like you said, playing around with canva is the way to go to become familiar with all the features. I like your project, even with the mistake!

    1. I am tempted to go Apple, but switching all my other stuff over... I keep resisting.

  7. But those imperfections are what makes it unique and gives it character.
Never used either program. Always used PhotoShop.

    1. Imperfections are one thing. A mis-twisted cable is something else entirely.

  8. yay for you taking on canva. I have never heard of that though. I just can't tackle stuff like that anymore. I HATE when I make mistakes like that and have to take stuff out to redo. Hang in there, you will get it.

    1. Canva has some great tools. I think you'd find some fun things to do with your photos with it.

  9. I love photoshop, but I only have it installed on my super old computer back in Minnesota. It's so slow that I only use it for important projects. I use my phone and pic collage mainly now, even for my book promotional photos.

  10. I used Canva for a brief period. Not too hard. You need to play with it for some time to learn it. Of course, I learnt very little.

    1. Yeah, that's the thing. I haven't really had the time to learn much. Yet.

  11. You are a perfectionist. I think it looks fine as is but like all artistic types, it drives you mad...lol. my hubby has played his entire Woodburn image in the garbage

    1. Perfectionist? Pfft. That was a pretty big, glaring error.
