Out All Night

Yup, I'm still in the CAD class...

On Wednesdays, the school has this thing called advisory. It's a bit of time carved out of the day where the students can get updates as to how many credits they're earning. There are also announcements and such.

It was the afternoon, so I only had three students. One girl was complaining that she was tired. I could relate as I had been dragging all week. That's when she explained why she was so tired.

"I snuck out two nights ago, only getting back home just before 6 AM."

Um, what?

"My mom couldn't figure out why I was so tired all day."

Her mother questioned her. She wondered if she was doing drugs. ("I don't smoke anymore," she said.) Her mother wondered if she'd been on her phone all night. ("I turned off my phone at 10:30 as you requested," she said.)

But her mother didn't think to ask if she snuck out of the house at 11 PM and stayed out all night with her boyfriend.

So, parents, if your teen is inexplicably tired, perhaps they're sneaking out of the house at night. This is my public service announcement for the week.

  1. Sneaking out is still alive and well, I see.

  2. LOL :) My son was good at getting home before curfew time, but he necessarily wasn't good about staying home after curfew time. Did catch him a few times out and about in the middle of the night and then he told me about other times when he was out and about and what they did. All I can say is, I hope the wee one gives him as much grief as he gave me in his teen years :)

  5. Recalling my youthful mischief is one thing that made me want to skip having kids. I couldn't sneak out, but... My poor mother once caught me getting picked up by my boyfriend outside the library next door to where she had choir practice that night, two blocks from our house. Her practice was only one night a week. I got greedy and burned that handy ruse. Oh, well. She kept that from my father, thank heaven.

    1. The teens of today don't get that we've all done it before.

  7. LOL! I used to sneak out, but I went to a boarding school, so it was slightly more contained. Is that good? Bad?
Meh. I survived. So will she.

  8. Oh boy....I wonder if you can tell the guidance counselling so she can be told about having the boy wear a condom and STD’s. I can see this girl get pregnant

    1. Oh, yeah, I can inform the counselor. Although, considering how much time she spends there, I would think she probably already told her herself.

  9. Wow. I guess she didn't consider teachers might talk to parents...

    1. They don't see me as an authority figure. They're astonished when I "snitch" about things they shouldn't be doing.
