The Last Day of Summer School

It was the last day of summer school...

(Before anyone wonders about "time off", the continuation high school started up that same week. Guess what I'll be writing about next week.)

It was one of the "severe" special ed. classes. Their summer school program was more of a summer day camp situation. With air conditioning.

The last day was about cleaning up the room. During the summer, the custodial staff takes every stick of furniture out, cleans the floors, and brings it all back in again. (They've already started on the rooms that weren't used for summer school. It's fascinating to peek in to see these rooms that I've been in all empty.) So, anything the kiddos left behind would likely get lost if not tossed outright.

It really doesn't take that long to clean the room.

So, somehow I managed to work the first and the last day of summer school. And many days in between. Weird.

  1. Well, I guess it's good that the rooms get a thorough cleaning

    1. You should see the floors afterwards. They're shiny.

  2. Good for the budget though with all your working :) One of the churches we went to when we lived in San Diego area was held at a local high school. I remember during summer they would pack the rooms with twice as many desks to accommodate the kids for summer school. Probably also gave the custodians opportunity to clean the other rooms.

    2. I'd be an angry monster without our central a/c. ~grin~ Thanks for the kind word on my blog. I do have siblings. As for the silk flowers left on my mother's grave, I think they are more likely to have been gifted by a nearby cousin farmer. The remote location is not much closer to my immediate family.

    3. I can be growly even with a/c, especially when the kiddos complain it's too cold *grrrr*

  5. My best friend started the 1 month summer program which is intensive. Thank goodness for the A/C and the custodial staff who probably have to clean things I would never want to

    1. Oh yes, a/c is one of the perks of summer school. It's so much nicer than the a/c at home.

  6. It's a good thing for the schools that you're around when they need you.

  8. My little granddaughter has about a week left before she starts kindergarten. It really does feel like the end of summer (except for the scorching temps!!).

  9. I love that image of a clean empty classroom ready to take on the new set of kids. The excitement, the potential, the wonder of a different set of students.

  12. My kids are in a summer play hosted by a local high school and I'm passing all the kitchen appliances moved out into the halls from the Home Ec classroom. Very odd.

  15. The fact you get so much work is a strong indicator of what a good job you do :)
