Crocheting Dishcloths

"Do you make crocheted dish cloths?"

The question was posted to my Facebook page. It was something I hadn't considered before. Could I? Certainly.

Dish cloths are just small squares crocheted (or knit) using 100% cotton yarn. And I have a stash of cotton yarn. It's the yarn I use to make the jellyfish.

Rather than spend hours (or days) perusing stitch dictionaries (which is what I would normally do, looking for the perfect stitch), I searched Pinterest for dish cloth patterns. It's cheating, I know. But I also know I could then spend days working on swatching for sizing, and the stitch I picked might not look all that great.

I found this Crocheted Textured Dishcloth pattern from Just Be Crafty, and here's what came out...

Yes, it's white. That was the color requested.

And now I have a great idea on how to use up the odd and ends of cotton yarn that isn't enough to create a jellyfish.

  1. I would never call that cheating. ~nods~ That's saving time and using your talent more efficiently. Very nice looking! And white is probably a good choice. I recall my nose blind mother using dish cloths until they stank to high heaven. Ugh... It's no wonder I constantly suffered 'the flu' as a kid. I was systematically poisoned, I'm sure. Heh... Be well!

    2. Ha! It's great you have a good use for those odds and ends. I hate wasting materials.

As for your kind question on my blog, I'm hoarding my full series out of dread sharing with the cold, cruel world. ~grin~ I'm happy writing for myself.

But if I ever decide to try publishing, there's someone I might contact for help. He's a similarly oriented author who published a short sci fi bit I wrote for his anthology. At conclusion of that collaboration he welcomed me to contact him with future tales. We just might make a good team. Who knows? Be well!

    3. There are people who will hate your book. It's inevitable. But, there will also be people who love your book. And they'll make pursuing publishing worth it.

  4. I didn't realize you had a Facebook page with your projects. I "liked" it and followed you. The dishcloths are pretty. I like the texture.

    1. Thanks. Yeah, I don't promote my social media pages as well as I could.

  5. It came out really nice. I don't see how looking up a pattern can be cheating. Maybe you're being too hard on yourself? :)

  7. It's very pretty - too pretty to actually be used as a washer, surely! And finding a pattern isn't cheating. Cheating is finding someone to make it for you ;)

  10. I miss my knitted dishcloths - they were my favorites! But when we moved out of the US, they went away. Now I use only plain-old store-bought ones. :-(

    1. No one locally crochets? Although, you wouldn't know that just yet, would you?

  12. I've had people tell me I should knit some dish clothes to sell, but every other knitter I see at craft show has them so I'd rather do something different.

    1. Yeah. I looked on Etsy, and there's a lot. I wouldn't base a business on it. But if someone asks, I'm good with doing a custom order.
