Invisible

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements ;)

As a child, I wished to be so small no one would see me. As I got older, I realized being completely invisible would be more trouble than it’s worth. If people can’t see you, they won’t get out of the way to let you pass, or they’ll run into you while you’re minding your own business. But…

What if you had the ability to not be noticed, to pass nearly invisibly through most spaces? What might you do with this skill (or power)?

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. Hi Liz - well that is a difficult one - I suppose I could help when people needed it ... but which others didn't get to early enough ... this has beaten me! Cheers Hilary

  2. I'd probably spy on some people I would like to spy on.

  3. Duh, world-class assassin. This would be the best power to have besides teleporting.

  5. I would go inside all the houses I like and see how they're decorated and who lives there and sneak a glimpse of their lives, a non-personal glimpse I might add. That's about it. Call me nosy. Or...call me a writer...

  6. I have no clue what I'd do to be honest hmmmm

  7. I'm not sure I would make use of this. Spying is tempting but better left alone. I have no intention of being a criminal no matter how easy.

    1. So, what non-criminal use could you make of it? I'm sure there's something.

  8. The draw of being snoopy might win out, and that would lead to a world of heartache and trouble!

  10. I would get on a plane and go to Europe and get into places that would cost money. If someone was really mean, I would be tempted to trip them and I would have to be a fly on the wall. I know I should say something like I would help people blah blah but I'm speaking the truth:)

    1. Yeah. Most of us would not put this power to good use, I'm afraid.

  11. I would sneak onto airplanes, going right past security, sit in first class, and travel the world. I would make my living as an author, telling the most incredible stories, but they would all be true, because I would have witnessed all of them. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  12. Hmmm I might use it at the house to actually pee by myself instead of having a herd follow me to 'help' lol but guess that would depend on if the invisibility applies to animals, too.

  13. I would probably stay the same, a general hermit happiest writing by myself. ~grin~ Happy Blogging!

  15. Oh my....I would probably use it around certain folks that I really rather not talk with but always do just to be nice. That way no one would no I was "hiding" from anyone therefore I would not hurt anyone's feelings! I worry way to much about others feelings. Wow...could save myself a lot of time and stress!

    1. That's a great way to use it. I hadn't considered it.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
