In the Pink Headband

6th period "computer literacy". They had a scavenger hunt assignment. The teacher had found 20 images online, and the students had to find those exact same images using image search.

(To make sure the students didn't cut and paste, the teacher had color coded his assignment sheet.)

Some of these images the students located easily. Many of them recognized Channing Tatum. The parts of a leaf they could narrow down to. An image of the Afghan flag took some scrambling, but eventually they figured it out. Some clip art and logos they got in the ballpark for, but weren't quite there. (Okay, I got as close as I remember to some of those links, but I don't think I got the exact ones that were used.)

They explained all of this to me. Then they pointed out one picture. (This link is to the picture that was on the scavenger hunt.)

"You see the guy with the pink headband?"

Me: "You mean Andre Agassi?"

It was early Agassi, before he shaved his head, when he wore all the wild colors. But I recognized him readily enough.

Student: "It took US forever to find out who that was, and then to find that image..."

Yep, I feel old...

  2. Yeah, Agassi and hair was a long time ago...

  3. Definitely a long time ago! We were in the car one night a few years ago with my stepdaughter and two of her friends. Aerosmith came on. My husband said, "Do you know who this is?" They said no. He said, "Aerosmith? Steven Tyler?" They all got excited. "YES! We know Steven Tyler. He's on American Idol."

    1. Yep, of course they've never heard of Aerosmith.

  4. I have to admit, I wouldn't have known who he was. I've heard of him, but seen? Nope. And that ridiculous hair I'd remember.

  5. I think I would have recognised him. But I am ancient. What was the purpose of the assignment out of interest?

    1. I'm not sure. Teaching them how to search for images, perhaps?

    2. Oh. It seems like a difficult task. I've tried to find images I've used so I can add credits and it's been a trial. Keeps them busy I guess.

    3. I don't think it was a keep-busy assignment, but I could be wrong. They also had a current event assignment--they find an article online and then write two paragraphs about it. So, I guess it's all about computer literacy.

  6. Oh boy...a week is too old for them so this is ancient:)
