Not Quite the Lesson Plan

It was a very bizarre day. We had the farewell assembly for the seniors. The schedule was all askew (to accommodate that farewell assembly), and the school was a bit unsettled.

The class was AP physics. Almost half the class was missing because they were seniors. (After the farewell assembly, the seniors were done. They won't be in class again.)

Their teacher left a video or "go to YouTube and look up Vsauce..."

So, I went to YouTube, looked up Vsauce, and the students directed me to click on something else. Vsauce3.

Which is not Vsauce. But it's the end of the year. And it didn't look inappropriate. Sure, the topics were video game related, but it's not like we were doing any physics...

Some of the videos we watched:

If you checked any of those out, you might notice something. Not physics related? Um, no. Not really. They are very physics related.

The Pokemon one? They're talking terminal velocities and acceleration due to gravity. The Superman one discussed the speed of light and how hard a punch like that would be.

So, I guess we were kind of on task. Sort of. Even though they were done.

I wonder if they realized how much physics they were seeing. I bet they did.

  1. Come to think of it, everything we do is following the laws of physics, isn't it? -- Well, almost everything.-- Some things may be following the rules of metaphysics.

  2. I was thinking that most do belong to physics but physics escapes me completely:)

  5. Do you remember the videos we watched in school? We thought it was exciting when we got to watch an After School Special or something that was actually from our time. Before that, it was those horrible 70s films that were such bad quality. You may be younger than I am, though, so your classrooms may have been more progressive when you were in school!

    1. We only very occasionally watched anything in class. Cosmos, I think. And movies, but only at the end of the year.

  6. I've only had time to watch the first one, but I was very entertained. If I would have known about this last week I would definitely would have written about VSause3 - App All Knight for which ever Thing was "Finding New Apps". Made much more sense than Fork Lift from yesterday. And that's probably why I decided to get a mathematics degree, rather than an English degree before library school.

  7. Wow! There are some great resources out there now. Wish they'd had them when I was at school. All we had was Microfiche to use for research.

  9. The world would be a smarter place if they'd let kids learn more often from videos and lessons they enjoy. I can still recite the preamble of the Constitution because of School House Rock!!!

    1. Some teachers do this sort of thing all the time. Those are the teachers the students love.
