Where I Found My Earring

This has been the weirdest year. Not only did I get a chance to attend Back to School Night, I also got to attend Open House. Because I'm doing the long-term assignment.

I just timed these long-term assignments wrong right, I guess.

Even though we have students on campus now, Open House was fully virtual. So each department got together to create a presentation. As the sub in the mix, I went along with what the three other eighth grade English teachers wanted to do. (It's not like I knew what to showcase, anyway.)

The night of, we were all in the same meet, but we were all in different classrooms. I got a call from the teacher who took charge. As we talked, I felt something strange with my earring. When we finished our conversation, I felt for my earring, and the back had fallen off. (With masks, I've been wearing stud earrings exclusively.)

It had to have fallen somewhere...

The co-teacher was in the same room with me. She looked from one side of the desk, me from the other. I used my flashlight. I got down on my hands and knees. Nothing.

I put what was left of my earrings in my wallet, and we went on with the Open House presentation. (We had, like, 13 parents show up. Sigh.)

After, I went straight home. It had been a long day. (There was time for me to go home between the end of the school day and the start of Open House, but it seemed like a waste of time, so I had remained on campus. That made it a 12-hour day.)

And that's when I texted the co-teacher with one of my stranger texts...

She had said it probably ended up in my bra. The earring back had somehow slipped into a pretty secure location on the inside of my bra, between the lace and the structural support. It was safe there until I found it.

Whew.

I would have been very upset at losing that. I wear those earrings all the time.

  1. It is nice that you didn't lose your earrings but it was whole time in your bra.

  2. Ha! Was your top a bit low-cut! :) I had one a bit low-cut in high school and lost a pencil! I didn't admit to a boy who said, "Maybe it's in your top," because that's where I found it when I crawled under the table to look for it. Okay, that top was not a "bit" low-cut, I am not sure why I was allowed to wear it (I mean my parents, schools didn't have dress codes).

    1. Nope, it wasn't that low cut. I was at work. I don't wear low cut anything to work in.

  4. It's just a new habit now to take care of the earing while putting the mask! I still wear pendants, but no rings ;) Glad you didn't lose it.

  5. Those tiny backs are almost impossible to find! I can't believe it ended up in your bra XD

  6. I have heard of two similar lost-and-found cases. In both cases -- once an earring and the other a necklace -- they had safely lodged themselves within their dress. Now whenever I hear of anyone losing their earring, my suspicion is always that it's on their body and nowhere else!

  8. Know something strange? Since the pandemic started (well, a week or so after I was sent home to work) I stopped wearing jewelry! And not because of my mask, it was just...I stopped. Anyway, I had a necklace break once and guess where it ended up - so sorry about the searching but I got a nice chuckle out of this.

    1. So my piercings wouldn't close up, I started wearing earrings when I went out for walks. Now that I'm back at work, I can wear the earrings at work.

  9. I don't have pierced ears, so have no idea if this is the case, but could you have used the back off another earring, or bought a new back (I've seen packets of backs for sale)? Probably showing my ignorance here. But better you found the one that goes with the earrings.

  11. HAHA...I have had that happen before. Surprise that it did not poke you a time or two before you located it. One day I was at work and something kept poking me in my boob. I got up and went to the BR to locate it. Nothing. Couple of times sitting in my cube I would get poked again and again. Several times, I turned away from the door and even ran my hand down in my bra....nothing. Finally I had to get up and go to the BR again, took my shirt off, and my bra off....then I found it. It was a white hair of Dakota's (dog)....one small hair! One end sticking in the cup and the other sticking out just a TAD but it was a stiff hair and that was what was poking me. CRAZY.....I have been wearing a set of small diamond earrings in my second holes since I was 32, 29 years. I check them through out the day for fear that I will lose one. I did find a long time ago that using cheap metal backs stay better on gold bars. The gold is softer and will expand, the metal will not. I found that out after finding my earring in the bed or shower a couple of times.

    1. That's exactly the backing I had on these. I think I didn't feel it due to how much there is in my bra. (I don't have no wimpy bra.)

  12. Thankfully you didn’t reach for it when speaking to a parent..hahahaaa.
