Falling Partitions

Because pandemic, all the classrooms have been outfitted with plexiglass partitions for the students. They look like this:

As you can see, they're not attached to the desks. Because of this, the inevitable happens. Several times a day.

(The inevitable being that kiddo knocks said partition down.)

And, you know what? This makes me laugh every single time.

It's terrible of me. The kiddos don't intend to knock the thing over. Some of it is clumsy. (They are adolescents, after all.) Some of it is careless. And because we have them wipe down their desks after every class (yup, there are safety protocols in place), someone is going to touch something wrong, and down it goes.

I'm not trying to laugh at them. Some of them look positively mortified when it happens. Although, as it happens every day, I think we're getting to the point where they're less upset when it happens to them.

I hope.

Because, the laugh response continues to happen. I'm tamping it down more and more. But a snort still seems to come out when I hear the tell-tale sound of falling partition.

Timber!

    1. They're not heavy. They shouldn't hurt anyone.

  3. I guess if they are not fixed on the table, it's because they are easier to remove and clean? Sometimes just a small patch of scratch on the table and on the partition will do the job ;D

  4. Yeah, that would make me laugh, too. I mean, as long as it wasn't happening to me...

  6. Isn’t it fun to laugh at what happens to the kids instead of the other way around.

  7. It's okay the kids knock them over. The partitions are good safety precaution after all.

  8. Hi Liz - I guess it's got to be done, but doesn't seem to have been thought out that well - I'm just glad you're laughing ... Hilary

  9. Several months ago the #1 (our CEO) and #2 people were giving a videotaped speech to the company I work for. There was a partition between them and sure enough #2 knocked the partition right onto the CEO...and they both laughed. You are in good company!

    1. I could see how #1 might get mad and perhaps try to fire #2, so glad to see they found it funny.

  10. I am sorry...I would laugh also. I understand them not attaching to the desk, so not to destroy said desk, but common sense should have told them that just having them sit there is not really doable.

    1. Yeah, there had to be a better way, although I can't think of what that could be.

  11. If only they could be secured somehow. I'd probably (accidentally) knock mine over a lot if I were a student.

    1. Today they got knocked over five times. Maybe. Maybe four. So, not too bad, really.

  12. Oh poor things.. my eldest has to switch classes so he has to carry his partition to the next class. Currently he only has to switch once and is not one to complain but still.

  13. Chrys is right. they need to be secured. But the district is clearly on top of it.

    1. It's not going to happen. At least the kiddos knocking them over is entertainment.

  15. My previous job had me installing all manor of said partitions in commercial institutions. We had to use whatever we had to work with as far as structures, walls, countertops, etc. I should've taken photos of the creativity we had to come up with!
