100 Most Popular TV Shows

This week I've gone back to the list site for our quiz. Unlike last time, this list has a bit of authority behind it via the IMDb (Internet Movie Database).

The list is weighted way more heavily towards more current TV shows. Since many of us are running out of things to watch (I can't be the only one), the list might spark some ideas. Just a thought.

100 Most Popular TV Shows (IMDb)

I got 27 out of 100. I didn't count any shows I'd seen an episode or two of, like shows that I watched the pilot and decided they weren't for me (Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Lost). But I did count shows that I started, watched two or three seasons of, and then gave up (Psych, Supernatural, NCIS). And I counted Friends even though I was more of a hit or miss viewer.

I'm generally more of a completest when it comes to TV shows, so more often than not, I watched the full run (or I'm up to date). Giving up on a show does not come naturally. I'll let you judge whether or not to count a series as "watched" or not however you wish.

How many have you seen? Are there any on the list you're tempted to try?

  1. You can tell I don't watch TV much by my score - 3 out of 100 lol

    1. As long as you watch what you enjoy for as long as you wish, that's all that really matters.

  2. Here I thought I would see I Love Lucy,Mary Tyler Moore, Frazer, The Carol Burnett Show, MASH but, alas, not even Seinfeld was on this list. Who makes these lists up 25 yr olds? Anyway I got 11 out of 100...hahahaa

    1. It was selected by IMDb users, so they're probably younger, yeah. I'll have to find you a list of more classic shows. Remind me.

  3. Some of the shows listed I only glanced at and moved on from. If anyone needs a show recommendation and is into fantasy/sci-fi, then I would say that His Dark Materials, based on the trilogy by Philip Pullman is worth a look-see.

    1. I watched season 1 of that. It was kind of weird and hard to get into. I guess if I had read the books, I would have enjoyed it more.

  4. I can't believe I've only seen 27 out of 100, as I've seen a lot of TV. I was still impressed with the list of shows they had. They didn't dive into the well of only classic TV was allowed on there. There were actually shows from this century. Thumbs up emoji.

  5. I saw 9 of them lol. I would have had more because there were shows I was interested in seeing but hubby hogs the remote. It is a battle I gave in to a long time ago. Not worth fighting over it.

  6. Just 11, and most of them were one or two episodes. Which reminds me, I have a Sons of Anarchy DVD in the house somewhere which I purchased on some Black Friday years ago.

    1. I never did get into Sons of Anarchy. Worth it?

  7. 12 (my rule was if I watch a season - although some that is all I watched before giving up). I'm watching a lot of Scandanavian noir and there wasn't any of that listed. Other than that I'm watching baking shows, house reno shows, British comedy and crime, the eco-challenge race and Wizards (the final Tales of Arcadia series) at the moment.

  10. Ha! I got 6/100 and I don't know when's the last time I even watched any of those six, or if they are still on the air! I only got a six due to watching Doctor Who, SVU, and Midsomer Murders years ago. I learned something new from the list. I had no idea the N in NCIS was for Naval! I am NOT a television watcher! I'll get hooked on a Netflix series though. I recommend The Killing if you like murder and mysteries! The acting is superb.

    1. What are the "right" shows, anyway? Like, I read a lot, but if you quizzed me on what was on the bestseller list, I'd fail.

  13. I'm embarrassed (or proud maybe?) how many of these shows I've never watched.
