Bouncy Kids

Eighth grade math. It was a team taught class, so I spent the day in support mode. But it's also how I learned about the new toy they had in class.

It's to help with fidgety middle schoolers. Imagine bouncing your feet on these. (I kind of want one.)

The teachers received a grant to outfit the classroom with them.

I don't know if the kiddos like them or not. The other teacher kept them busy all period, so I had no chance to ask.

However, one student pulled it back and released it, creating a low note vibrating through the air.

Ms. V: "If you're going to deliberately make noise with that, I can move you to a desk that does not have one."

After that, all vibrating bands were clearly accidental. I guess they didn't want to be moved.

  1. Considering how much I move myself, I'm not surprised it works. I wonder if maybe I should suggest it for my kids' schools.

    1. You should. I wonder if they could get a grant for them, too.

  2. Now that is different, interesting. I am a leg bouncer, esp on the days I don't feel well. I used to be able to travel from Nashville to Ga and back in one given work day..haha...I generally set pretty still on the days I feel good. I am a traveler so this might be cool to have!

  3. That is a great idea. I remember students who clearly could have benefited from this.

  4. It would be fun to try to play a song on that. I wonder if it helps with the fidgeting.

  6. Huh I wonder if the kiddos actually notice improvement if they use it

    1. That is an interesting question. We're only on week 4 of the school year, and these are new. (I covered this class a few times last year, so I know they're new this year.) I'll have to ask near the end of the year if the teachers saw any focus improvement.

  7. What an interesting idea to handle 'the fidgets'. Could have helped us back in jr high, for sure.

  8. I love the idea of it! I'm not fidgety, but I would still like one if I was back in school.

  9. I forgot how much sitting we did as kids. This is a good solution for fidgety kids. Also for kids who need a nudge to move more.

  10. I never heard of that but that sounds like a good idea for kids who have adhd etc...

  11. Better than fidget spinners (which were banned at most schools here)

  12. I have read about this - what a wonderful idea and I really need one myself! I have the attention span of a nat so I would love this. Hope it works for the teachers, maybe they should introduce it into the music classes as it sounds like you can get some tunes and rhythm going on those bands!

  14. That is such a great idea. My son and my husband both would have benefited from that when they were young - and I could use something like that now, to keep circulation going!

    1. It's probably available online, although you'd have to have some idea what you were going to attach it to first.
