The Creation

At the heart of much speculative fiction (and fiction in general) is a question. What if? On Tuesdays I like to throw one out there and see what you make of it. Do with it as you please. If a for-instance is not specified, feel free to interpret that instance as you wish. And if you find this becomes a novel-length answer, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements. 😉

Did you know there's a new In Search Of? (Or, are you too young to have heard of the original iteration?) A recent episode was about artificial intelligence.

Which got me to thinking. Yes, I know they kind of did this in the newer Battlestar Galactica, but it's worth revisiting...

Let's say that once upon a time there was a people who had the ability and know how to create artificially intelligent robots. What if those long-ago AI robots are us? (I'm assuming that the robots figured out how to reproduce, and in this scenario, those descendants of the original AI are us.)

  1. Well that's one way to define us any way you look at it. I don't think it changes much, except our history books are clearly wrong, and we need to rethink the origins part.

  2. They used cheap materials then. It's only been thirty years and mine's already falling apart.

  4. I loved what JE. Oneil said, LOL :)

I'm guessing if this was the case, we couldn't be traded in for younger newer models?

  5. Hmmm, makes me wonder what humans are like then in this kind of scenario.

  6. Haha! Well, I'd say the people of the future did a horrible job creating us robots, because we're plagued with mental and physical ailments!

  7. Shoddy construction. Robot fail. Or maybe we were the failed models and the good ones are enjoying a paradise somewhere.

  8. haha...there are days I feel like a robot. If I was a robot though I would need to be put in the the shop for some much needed repairs.

    1. Would an AI look at things logically? Is looking at things logically the best?

  10. Ah I do not know that one. Too young I guess? Maybe. Or I just don't pay attention. lol

Hmmm if that's the origin of us I could use a little tweaking.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
