New year. Must take advantage of the opportunity...
What if we had longer years (1000 days. 2000 days.)? What if we had shorter years (100 days. 50 days.)? How would that impact our lives (annual events, holidays, birthdays...)?
My personal blog about the random things that are in my life: writing, knitting, and substitute teaching.

I appreciate your comments.
I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.
*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.

If the years were longer, I bet birthdays would be a much bigger milestones. Each one would be a major stage in life, toddler hood, elementary age, middle school age, etc. etc. If they were shorter, I think they'd be a lot less important, maybe not celebrated at all. It's a lot less special when another revolution is only fifty days away.
ReplyDeleteThis was a cool one :)
You know what? I've actually thought about this. In one story world, I was tampering with the calendar and contemplating how that would affect society overall. I didn't like it. Not one bit. Nowhere near as interesting. =)
ReplyDeleteThere would still be missed days and opportunities. Sadly, we tend to procrastinate, but there would be more days to wander about and make mistakes, and succeed eventually.....so I'm all for it!
ReplyDeleteThat's true. But that would be true for any calendar, wouldn't it?
