Fascist State?

Fascism: a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition

Last week I covered a world history class, and the above poster was on the wall in the classroom.

The term fascism has been bandied about a lot as of late with regards to our government. Have we gone full fascism? According to that dictionary definition, no. But, we are headed that way. Especially if those in charge get their way.

I mean, if you look, you can see all the awful things that are happening:

Enough. For today. There's more, if you look.

I'm so tired of living in interesting times.

Today's A to Z Challenge post brought to you by the letter...

  1. It's exhausting and frightening.

  2. The letter today fit perfectly with your Tuesday posts! There is something to be said about living in less interesting times, they were so much more relaxing, no being on edge, fearing the next big announcement. My first thought when I heard about Iran being attacked was, "Oh, I hope we didn't do that."

    1. Yeah, this letter kind of jumped out at me. Sometimes April just works, sadly.

  3. It really cuts into creativity to have your brain creativity funneled to "how do I make sure my family is safe" and "what do I need to do to help others without endangering them and me." I want more brain power to live my life.

  6. I read the Politico article on the Holocaust Museum. It's a clear case of obeying in advance. I am dreading tonight and what might happen (or not happen) at 8pm tonight. There's only so much of this that a thinking person can take and that is what our government is depending upon - throwing so much on us that our brains shut down from sheer exhaustion. And then we don't react. We're numb.

    1. It is a lot. I have no idea what your 8 PM reference is to, and I don't think I want to know.

  8. I'm far from expert on different type of ruling governments. But it looks like we could be going down rabbit hole of fascist, or something close.
I worry about the elections this year.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
