Compare

Last week (although it feels like eons ago) I posted some pyramid pillow pictures. I asked for opinions. A couple of you thought I should retake the photos and use a plain background.

I've seen that advice before. And normally I'd agree. However, with this I hesitate. There's something about this pillow that I think needs a little something more. A plain background doesn't really give a good sense of scale.

But, this is just my opinion. I could be wrong.

So, first the pillow with a plain white background.

Then, with a bit of scenery.

(These photos aren't as good as I would like. I'm working on a new computer. The photo editing software I'm used to is no longer available, so I'm in the process of figuring out what to replace it with. Please bear with me while I adjust to the new. And, if you have photo editing software that you like, I'm open to suggestions.)

Which do you prefer?

  1. Photoshop always works for me.
I can see why it needs something for scale. Although if it's obviously holding an iPad, that should be a good indication of size.

  2. I think it looks good against the plain white background, but I'm kind of unsure. Perhaps it needs a tablet on it so you can get a better idea of the size.

  3. Either look fine to me. I saw it the other day and I think it was for an ipad, correct?

    1. Mini ipad. This is the ereader size. Yes, it's the same one I posted last week. I'm still tweaking images.

  4. I like the plain background (and, I must admit, I was one of the "use a plain background" folks. I agree it might be helpful to have something to help scale it. As using an iPad would block the view of the item, I'm not sure how to accomplish that. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. I find it interesting everyone seems to think this is the iPad size. Which tells me I need something to scale it, for this is the ereader size.

  5. I think you'll be fine if it's holding a tablet in at least one of the pictures.

  6. I'm not particular and find either work

  7. I do like the one with some scenery in the background. Clueless on recommending programs; I don't use any (technology challenged here)

  8. Hi Liz - I prefer the one with background landscape - but if it had a tablet resting against it ... it might make sense - then the white background would be fine ... cheers and good luck with the new machine ... Hilary

  9. I like the scenery, but as Hilary said above, maybe with the tablet a plain background would be okay.
FYI -- I use PicMonkey (free) for software editing.

  10. I think I like the plain a little more. To me, it seems to get lost a little bit in the scenery. I've never messed with photo editing software. I'd like to, though, so I'm hoping you'll share whatever you decide on and your experiences.

    1. For photo editing I know nothing. Hence, the ask.

  11. The one with the scenery for me. It looks less staged if you know what I mean. I'm certainly no expert though.

    1. Thanks. I seem to be getting half for and half against. I can work with that.

  12. I reckon I would like to see 'in use' - good for scale too. I like the background detail.

    1. I'll definitely have pics with an ereader on it. (I had planned to use that, but with computer issues I was stuck with pictures I'd already taken. Unfortunately, I hadn't taken two similar ones with an ereader and with a background. Sigh.)

  13. For a shopping sense the plain works better for me and is less distracting. If you could do a background that's blurred it would work better for me, I think, vs the crisp in the second picture. I need to see if I can find the staging website I saw. If I do I'll send it over to you. Had some helpful info.

I do agree that some items for scale would probably be a good idea.
