Skewed View

It's Thursday, so it's time for my weekly random question...

I can't blame this one on The Science Channel. It popped into my brain all on its own while I was driving. From where this idea came from, I have no idea. (I'm going to blame it on A to Z fatigue.)

What if our perspective is all wrong? What if what we think of as getting larger is actually getting smaller (and vice versa)?

  1. So that would mean the universe is shrinking? Uh oh.

  2. Oh wow. That sounds like a great subject for a futuristic sci-fi novel!

  3. Ooh, I like this one because it's bending my mind. If everything is getting bigger then the Big Bang was actually the universe reaching the largest point possible and rushing in on itself and whoa.

  4. My first thought was "It wouldn't matter," like if everything we think is orange is blue and vice versa: the sky would be orange but we'd still perceive it as what we think of as blue.

But then I thought about it. So I think my kids are getting larger, but they're not? When I lose weight I am actually gaining weight? How far does this go? Am I a child who is actually watching his parents grow younger? Am I giving away my money instead of making it? Perhaps time is flowing in reverse, and I haven't noticed it. Or possibly the laws of physics aren't what we think they are. I think realizing something like that would throw off every perception you thought you had. We'd have to rethink the entire universe.

    1. Yes, on the one hand it wouldn't matter. So, the question is, where does it matter and how would that make a good story?

  6. Then I think we are going to be very concused when we realize this and might have trouble rethinking our perspective.

  7. I think we'd know because we'd fall into big holes we thought were small holes, and so on.

  8. I'm confused enough of the time without thinking my perception is skewed. Can we keep to things the way they are? I handle reality even if I don't like it. lol

  9. Oh dear....too heavy a subject after a-z....what if...well, as long as we're all united.......does it matter? I'm continuing on with a-z in May

    1. Oops. Didn't mean for it to be a heavy question.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
