Fourth Annual Meme Collection 13

So, yeah, it's now become a thing.

In 2023 during the summer, I was bored and looking for topics for Thursday 13, and I thought to mine my phone for the various memes I had saved. When summer 2024 came around I realized I had 13 more memes to share. I did it again last year. So, now it's an annual event.

(Now that I know it's an annual event, I'll be more careful to collect some more. I came up a little short, so the last couple are posters I found in classrooms that I snapped pictures of. Kinda meme-y. I hope you don't mind.)

Before you can be great, you have to be good. Before you can be good, you have to be bad. Before you can be bad, you have to try.
1. I think I saw this on Bluesky, and now I can't find the creator to credit. I showed this to the art students in August as I thought it was something they should see.

How we want it to be: straight line. How it actually is: curvy and loopy line.
2. Same creator as #1. Very good education-type explanation.

Nothing can do this for you, for that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create--this is learning.
3. Also found on Bluesky. You can find the whole comic here

Parker Molloy @parkermolloy.com Posting this 1967 Birmingham news editorial cartoon for all the people who don't realize that this is how MLK was viewed by a big chunk or white America. Cartoon with MLK talking to reporter on street with chaos all around. Caption: I plan to lead another non-violent march tomorrow!
4. Vintage cartoon.

May Iranians, who mostly hate their leaders, be safe. May Palestinians, who mostly hate their leaders, be safe. May Israelis, who mostly hate their leaders, be safe. May US Citizens, who mostly hate their leaders, be safe. May all the war-mongering authoritarians be deposed. And may they one day experience real justice. For all the suffering and death they cause. Rabbi Marisa James (adapted)
5.

picture of dragon. caption: Their first mistake is underestimating you. Their second is underestimating your allies.
6.

picture of white buoy. caption: Play that funky music
7. I looked at this. And I looked at this. And then I remembered that that white thing is called a buoy. And then I couldn't stop laughing for five minutes.

picture of woman sitting, man peeking through doorway. panel 1: woman, "Your items have shipped". panel 2: man, "Be honest". panel 3: woman, "Label created". panel 4: man, "Thank you"
8. I love to watch the tracking of everything I order online. I feel this meme so hard.

Panel of 4 hats. KKK white hood. Baseball cap with Confederate flag. N*zi uniform cap. MAGA red cap. Caption: Same shit. Different hat.
9.

The Three Categories of Republicans: Fascists. Allies of fascists. People too stupid to realize they're part of the first two categories.
10.

If Republican policies are better for the economy and society, why are Republican states the poorest, least educated, with the least well-paying jobs, with the most health problems, and have the highest dependence on welfare programs? You 'd think that they would've asked themselves this by now.
11.

TBH. Dude. If Bigfoot can stay quiet and mind his own biz for years, then U can do the same for one class, Bro.
12. Found in a 12th grade government class.

I'm not telling you it's going to be easy. I'm telling you it's going to be worth it. Art Williams
13. Found in a forensic science class.

Six or Seven

Do you remember making jokes about 69 when you were a kid? (Or maybe you still do...?)

So, I was mystified when the kiddos started laughing anytime I referred to 67. 67?!?

I was afraid to ask, but eventually I worked up the nerve. "Hey, what is this 6 or 7 thing all about?"

I did that a couple weeks ago, in the art class. And now that I know, I hear it everywhere. Seriously. Every. Where. All the kiddos refer to it. I hear it multiple times a day.

And because I'm a giving person, I thought you all might like to know about the current meme. (Because if I have to know...)

That's what started it. But what the kiddos are responding to...

So, yeah. If you're around any teens, say, "6 or 7". And watch their eyes light up. It's just so weird.

The Third Annual Meme Collection 13

As I planned out what I'd write about on the blog this summer, I realized that there are a couple topics I seem to hit annually. One of them is a roundup of some of the various memes I've collected. As I did this in 2024 and 2023 around this time (not quite the exact week, but in July), I figured we were due for another. Of course, this is a Thursday 13. So, in no particular order...

1. I was explaining to my uncle about the Leopards Eating People's Faces political party (because he hadn't heard of this meme), so I saved this for him. (No special reason why this is relevant...)

2. This goes with #1.

3. I was explaining this one to a student, and I realized I needed the visual. Link to this comic online.

4. I have several anti-AI art images. I'll only post one for today.

5. I feel this one so hard.

6. Uh, yeah, this might be me. (Definitely me.)

7. This one spoke to me after having done some laws in another Thursday 13 a while ago...

8. Another anti-AI, but this one is for text, not art.

9. Hopefully, this one needs no explanation.

10. You can buy this T-shirt here. (We have cobra chickens in my condo complex, and yeah, cobra chickens is a great way to describe them.)

11. Math joke.

12. Math limerick. (This one broke my brain.)

13. Let's end with a nice thought.

Meme-y

So, at least 50 of the people sent to the concentration camp in El Salvador were found to be in the country legally. And now the gestapo ICE is going to immigration court and picking up immigrants who are dutifully attending their hearings. Because this was never about "legal immigration". This was always a racist purge. And we've become "never again".

That is why I'm so damn mad. And have been. Because I saw this coming. And I can't stop it.

I'm feeling meme-y today, but before we dive into those, I wanted to give you a link to DOGE Track. Someone is keeping track of all the damage they're doing to the federal government. In case you'd be interested in that sort of thing. Now, on to the memes. Note: these were all found online. None were done by me.

And some articles I found interesting:

13 More Memes

While trying to decide on what to list today, I was perusing my photo library on my phone, and I noticed the various images I'd collected from the internet. It's been about a year since I did this last, so why not?

This is a Thursday 13. In no particular order...

If being hard on yourself worked, it would have worked by now.
1. Many of these I saved for me. I like this sentiment.

You're not getting an pony. No one is getting a pony. Your choices are an older proven workhorse or a loud, squealing pig.
2. I saw this in March. Still true.

Do not open the window more than a crack. (Geese trying to get in.) Under sign, goose peeking in, proving sign true.
3. My newest "when I saw this I couldn't stop laughing" image. I can relate to this so hard.

I don't wanna adult anymore. I don't even want to human. I wanna goat. Jump around randomly. Eat what I want and head butt anyone who annoys me.
4. I can relate.

Don't chase your dreams! Humans are persistence hunters. Follow your dreams at a sustainable pace until they get tired and lie down.
5. I really, really, really like this.

It's a pretty small town--the population is just 1.2 kilofives. I don't see why Abraham Lincoln should be the only one who gets to come up with weird ways to say normal numbers.
6. Math geek me found this funny. Here's the link to the website.

The ones doin' the accusin' are usually the ones doin' the doin'--old southern proverb
7. I think you all know why I saved this one.

Don't be part of the problem. Be the whole problem.
8. This is a t-shirt. I am tempted to buy this t-shirt.

A wise man was asked "What is anger?" He gave a beautiful answer, "It is a punishment you give to yourself, for somebody else's mistakes."
9. Another one that spoke to me.

I literally cannot even. I can't even. I am unable to even. I have lost my ability to even. I am so unable to even.
10. We've all had those days.

how did "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" become the typical sentence that contains all letters of the alphabet and not "sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow" which is objectively a million times cooler
11. sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow... Yup, way cooler.

The Latin word "mappa" meant "napkin, cloth," but because maps were originally drawn on cloth, this eventually led to the word "map" as well.
12. I'm sure I saved this to show to J E Oneil. I'm also sure I did not get around to showing this to J E Oneil.

Jesus was here. A display of wines under a sign saying "water"
13. And another one that made me laugh for way too long.

Catch All and Five Facts

Somehow Monday has become my catch all day. Works for me.

If you're in the area, I'll be at the Green Acres Marketplace on Thursday from 11:30 AM-5:30 PM. Address and info on the Facebook page from the link.

Heather's GoFundMe is almost up to $9000. Thanks to everyone who's helped her get this far.

Last week MsHatch awarded me the Creative Blogger Award. Thanks, Marcy.

The rules:

  1. Thank and post the link of the person who nominated you.
  2. Share 5 facts about yourself to your readers.
  3. Nominate 10-20 blogs and notify them.
  4. Pass on the rules.
So, #1...check. #2...

It's been a while since I did one of these, so I guess I'm due. 5 facts, huh...
  1. At the moment, I'm addicted to Word Crack. I just learned that instead of tapping each letter, I can swipe the word. This has made it that much faster for me to form words, and it enhanced my enjoyment of the game that much more.
  2. I just acquired a stylus for my phone. Kind of like a pen, but it works on touchscreens. I like it so much better than using my finger. It even has a laser pointer and flashlight built in to it. Best part: I found it at the dollar store.
  3. I also play Candy Crush and Pyramid Solitaire Saga. As of my writing of this on Sunday, I'm on level 707 for Candy Crush and level 478 for Pyramid Solitaire Saga. Which may be good or pathetic. I'm not sure which.
  4. I went out walking on the 4th of July and stupidly didn't wear any sunscreen. It's only a mild sunburn, mostly gone now. Me and the sun--not friends.
  5. I just made a bunch of lip balm holders for the farmer's market this week...

I shouldn't really call these five facts. They're more like random thoughts about me.

As for #3, I don't nominate blogs. If you're commenting and would like to do it, feel free to add it to your blog, or give me one random fact about you in the comments.

Happy Monday.
