Out of Phase

What if? It's the basis of many stories. We ask. We ponder. We wonder.

On Tuesdays I throw one out there. What if? It may be speculative. It may stem from something I see. It may be something I pull from the news.

Make of it what you will. If a for instance is not specified, interpret that instance as you wish. And if the idea turns into a story, I'd appreciate a thank you in the acknowledgements 😉

I've been watching a lot of NOVA lately. (I have a bunch recorded on my DVR.) And while watching one on the formation of Earth's atmosphere, I had an odd thought.

What if the universe is teeming with life, but those lifeforms (on other planets) exist out of phase with our own reality?

I'll (probably) resume my ranting next week. So many things to rant about. It's good to not only rant, though.

  1. We can believe what we want it does make us right or wrong. I would be fool to think everyone see eye to eye with me.

    1. Some of the things my oldest brother believes are definitely wrong!

  2. I wouldn't be a bit surprised. There's so much of the universe which we don't know.

  3. So much we don't know, and never will. It's presumptuous to believe we are alone or all that special.

  4. As a reader of SF (science fiction) for the past 60-odd years, us being out of phase with the rest of the universe wouldn't surprise me at all. P.S. I answered your question on my blog from yesterday. Sorry for the delay; yesterday was a rather full day for me.

  5. Yeah, where is everybody? I know the vastness is too large to understand in relation to our teensy selves. Earth is even teensy in size/volume comparison to the rest of what's out there. We are less than specks and can't see much of the beyond. We're less than like the tiny microbes on our skin to the rest of our bodies. I believe our aloneness may be but a matter of comparitive size.

  6. I'm quite sure there's much life out there far away from the earth. Some of that could be more advanced than us too.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
