A First Attempt

Remember my ereader pillow... thing? (I really need to come up with a better name for it.)

This is the most recent version of the pattern. The original pattern is still here.
When I originally posted the thing on Ravelry, one of the comments I saw (it wasn't directed at me) was a wish that it came in a crochet version.

Crochet... Hmmm...

Since I saw that, I've been pondering the problem. Although, problem might be overstating the issue. I guess what I've been doing is figuring out how to make it work.

So, about two weeks ago I pulled out a hook and yarn and started in. I wasn't in the mood to make a big pillow, so I made it smartphone sized.

Something about how the bobbles were made make me think this looks a little like a bigfoot...

There are still a few kinks to work out, so I don't have a pattern for this quite yet. Soon. This summer.

What do you think? Is anyone still interested in a crochet pattern for this?

  1. It does look like a foot! Super cute. It's the kind of thing that if I had laying around, the kids would confiscate and nickname and make the center of their silly games.

  2. What a great idea and it does look like a foot. I don't have either an I pad or pod or whatever or one of those phones:) I am a pay as you go phone that is 7 yrs old now and still runs so that works for me. I could see many people want this-it makes perfect sense

  3. How cute. I love it! I have an issue with reading traditional books on my treadmill. I can't keep them open. Yes, normally I read on my Kindle...but lately I've been given several hardback books as gifts or at booksignings and I have to find a way to read those, too!

  4. How about e-reader pillow stand?

The crochet one does look like a bigfoot foot now that you mention it. But I still think it's cool looking. I don't think anyone will notice it unless you put it in the description :)

  7. That's a cute idea. Yes, it does look like a foot when the phone isn't on it.

  8. I like the bigfoot idea -- that's the name you should use. I liked these things the first time and I like 'em now.

  9. I am constantly propping my iPad up on random things because the stand we have doesn't always fit or the surface isn't perfectly plane (that feels like an algebra word...perhaps you've inspired me, although I am sure I have used it incorrectly), so I would love something like this. I cannot and fear I will not ever crochet, so you are going to have to make and sell them. PLUS - you have to include your haiku somewhere on my site - I have to read it!

    1. The Haiku is pretty bad...

You used plane correctly. And it seems like I'm getting a clamoring for the things, so I guess I'll have to add them to my shop.

I appreciate your comments.

I respond to comments* via email, unless your profile email is not enabled. Then, I'll reply in the comment thread. Eventually. Probably.

*Exception: I do not respond to "what if?" comments, but I do read them all. Those questions are open to your interpretation, and I don't wish to limit your imagination by what I thought the question was supposed to be.
